We can't say the team needs bats then immediately say the team should trade Jeffers and/or Larnach, proven bats help you win now. Carrying 3 C is not ideal, but Shelton seems to be managing it OK. Trading Caratini may be the right move, but then the team is looking for a C next year because neither Jeffers nor Caratini will be here and the prospects in the minors are a couple of years away at the earliest.

Detmers and Gore are not going to come cheaply because they still have team control attached to them, neither has a great track record, and I don't feel the team should mortgage the future for "potential", though that is what the future (and the MiLB system) is built on. The team already has potential and team control in Bradley, Rojas, Abel, Matthews, Prielipp and a few others with rising stock in the minors. It remains to be seen how much this group helps down the stretch, but Detmers and Gore are no guarantee to help either, and then the SP logjam begins fresh next spring.

Not Jeffers.

Rutschman is going to the Red Sox so Tampa Bay and Boston both have their catchers. The Yankees are the only team left needing a catcher. I think it will likely be Tyler Stephenson of the Reds. It does not seem likely that Jeffers is going to be traded today with Tampa and Boston already finding their catchers.

Kris Bubic to the Dodgers. The rich get richer. I'm not sure they need him, but that is interesting. Royals are going full sell-mode.

Dodgers starting pitchers now: Tarik Skubal, Yosinobu Yamamoto, Roki Sasaki, Kris Bubic, Emmet Sheehan, Eric Lauer, Justin Wrobleski, Tyler Glasnow (IL), Shoehi Ohtani (IL), Blake Snell (IL, Rehab Assignment).

I wasn't very interested in Robbie Ray as his diminished strikeouts and increased walks are a flashing warning sign, but the Padres only got him (from an inter division rival no less) by eating only half of his salary and giving up what appears to be two absolute nobodies.

So I'm thinking Tom Pohlad's declaration that the Twins are willing to take on significant salary was a bit of hyperbole. Like most of us probably suspected.

Half his remaining salary is $4 million, which is less than they've already spent. I doubt that was the hold up.

He's no Kremer! I hope he makes me look stupid.

Well my presumption is they already spent all they were allowed to spend.

And they didn't spend it very wisely in my opinion.

But a few hours left. I could be wrong and they come away with something surprising.

Isn't he signed for big money next year also?

Almost feels like a 2027 move for the Dodgers.  Entirely possible Bubic may not throw another pitch this year as his initial rehab got shut down a couple of weeks ago.  I suppose the Dodgers might as well fill the pitching warehouse now since they have slightly less revenue than Elon Musk.

Bob Nightengale said on Foul Territory that the Twins are trying to get Zach Neto...

That would be interesting. Controllable player and way undervalued based on the trade rumors I've heard. His strikeouts are an issue, but it's really his only issue.

You weren't very interested in him but it's a negative on ownership they didn't get him?

Not a negative for me. But I'm not the one telling every reporter I can find that the Twins are super serious and are really looking to take on salary to bring home a trophy this year.

If payroll goes from 100M to 105M, that's lip service nonsense and the same old Pohlad schtick. And my urge to call such nonsense out tends to be rather uncontrolable.
