Not a fan of this at all. Something the new CBA will address. I hope they lose!

What does the CBA have to do with a trade of prospects for Skubal?

Milwaukee has a phenomenal minor league system, probably better than the Dodgers. They surely could have offered up a few of their guys within their top ten without losing their top three guys.

The Twins benefit from not facing Skubal any more this season ..... until the World Series.

Hope can swing it, but I'm very confused by all the love for Ryan. He's 27. He has to be good right now or he'll be in decline before he hits arbitration. Never heard of the other guy.

Fully agree with @tony&rodney, if somebody like the Brewers wanted Skubal, they could've beat this package, in my opinion. But the industry seems to love River. I just don't get it for a 27 year old who's always hurt.

Tigers essentially traded a two-fer. Smith is a toss in, 0-7, 5.57ERA across A and AA this year. Probably leans on a FB, as he has 113Ks in 74 inn,

Ryan will be 28 in 13 days.

I’m not sold that any single deal like this means convincingly that the game’s economics are broken—but it’s a bummer that someone other than one of the very biggest-market, biggest-payroll teams didn’t make this deal, regardless of the reasons.

Among others, Fangraphs had a well written argument  for the Brewers or Rays to deal for Skubal: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-rays-or-brewers-must-trade-for-tarik-skubal/

Certainly the Brewers’ player development is good enough that I’d expect they could replace the contribution of Hope and Ryan-like prospects in short order.

The fact that a cap would prevent the Dodgers from adding unlimited salary comes to mind. Or that a salary floor prevents teams from simply dumping salary, like Correa.

Ok. Another person who believes a cap is coming. You are not alone.

I'm just in it for the baseball. How the owners mess with the game is well out of my control.

I hope the Dodgers go undefeated in the most boring post-season in the history of MLB.    I hope the TV ratings are abysmal. .
Then maybe just maybe MLB will bring in a salary cap and MLB can become competitive.

Will you watch the Twins or the Vikings when they play at the same time in September?

I’m setting the DVR and watching both.   But fast-forward can be a great feature.

Very scripted move for baseball. They might as well 3 peat then shut it down until they finally fix this broken financial system

Any team could have matched this. It has nothing to do with money. Milwaukee and Tampa didn't want to give up prospects, because like the Twins, they never actually go for it when in position.

I honestly don't know how anyone posts that with a straight face.  Googling the income disparity for TV revenue literally takes 12 seconds.

Well, I agree. The Brewers have the best record, and they are doing what? Tampa traded for a guy whose been terrible this year. Detroit waved the white flag, which might be the right idea, but now it's over for them this year.

The other teams could have made this trade, but didn't.

An extra 200 million a year is a heavy factor in any risk calculation don't you think?

We clearly won't agree. If Milwaukee and Tampa aren't going for it with these records, they never will. And that's not about money.

Part of what has made those teams successful is trust in their own process to keep producing talent.  Dealing those talents off for a small percentage increase of  playoff success is bad math.

The Dodgers can bad math their way through every decision the same way Elon Musk can compared to your local mom and pop shop.  The risk/reward analysis is broken.

It sucks.  The system should be rewarding them for their plucky ability to develop talent....but it doesn't.
