Did Ryan really give up two home runs to a rookie named "Petey", with an OPS under .500?

I'm not even sure that's possible if Petey put a golf ball on a tee at home plate and took five swings at it.

Ryan pitched a dud when the team need just t h e opposite from him.  My concern with Ryan is he hasn't pitched well the second halves of the season the past few years.  It's scary that we are essentially throwing a bullpen game Tuesday after only 5 games since the all star break.  I hope they do well and gain at least a split in Cleveland then beat up on the As and Royals on next homestead.  Go Twins..

Terrible time for Ryan to have one of the worst starts of his career. Offense has been wobbling during this losing streak too.

Right now, Twins are doing the exact same swoon they did after last season's all-star break. They cannot afford to have a lengthy losing streak right now if they want to stay in contention and want ownership to be buyers rather than sellers.

Let's see what Shelton and the players have. Been a lot of talk around here about how much "better" Shelton has been over Rocco, but right now this team is exactly 1 game better than they were last season. Same spot in the AL Central standings. Flirting with dropping another place. The real difference between 2025 and 2026 is the rest of the AL is substantially worse.

There is much consternation over trading Joe as some deem it too risky to trade his proven performance for prospects. There is risk in not trading him at maximum value. He’s had years where he has faded down the stretch and/or gotten hurt. I’m not implying yesterday’s game means anything but it is a good reminder.

Nice to see the Twins' players, respond with play up to and beyond their abilities after their lengthy struggle to reach the vaunted season highlighted mark of having won as many games as they have lost.  The team manager and coaches can certainly stand tall after their work on: fielding fundamentals, pitch calling, pitching execution, recognition of the opposing pitcher's pitch patterns, pitch recognition, and hitting with RISP, have produced in the last 3 games a clear indication of the level of play that can be expected from the maximum effort put forth by the players as they streak towards the season ending Promised Land that ownership has promised and fans have hoped for. 

SPECIAL RECOGNITION TO:

Larnach, Buxton, Bell and Lee, who with 2 hits a piece accounted for 8 of the team's total of 10 hits.  Buxton, having returned from the IL, actually played in the field rather than gumming up the team's lineup by having to be utilized at DH.  Larnach and Clemens, who with 2 strikeouts a piece almost accounted for half of the team's 9 on the day.  Martin, who given an opportunity to play CF in relief of Buxton (removed for rest following his return from the IL, once the game having become hopelessly out of reach) entered the game as a PH in the 7th with 1 run in, (cutting Cleveland's lead to a mere 7 runs - 10 to 3), 1 out and a runner on 1st, promptly ended any thought of a comeback with an inning ending double play that further cemented Martin's team status as  LAST MAN off the bench and on the roster.  Clemens, Roden and Kreidler, who with the Twins in dire need of baserunners and hits, combined to deliver a timely 0 for 11, diminished to that level only by Roden, who was able to coax a walk and deliver a SF.  Alex Jackson, who in being called in to pitch the bottom of the 8th with the Twins only trailing 13 - 4, and delivering a one hit, no run performance, has seemingly cleared up a 26 man roster conundrum, that of how does the team function with 3 catchers on the 26 man roster = you convert one of them into a relief pitcher!  However, don't become disillusioned by Jackson's success off the mound because, as any batter will tell you, it's tough to put a decent swing on a pitched ball when you are holding onto your sides LAUGHING!!

I thought so at first too, but with basically a bullpen game tomorrow, Shelton need Ryan to try to eat some innnings.

One out of the last 4 games has been watchable. This is starting to look like the same team that came out of the break last year. They had a workout last Thursday that apparently didn't do anything to get them fired up for the 2nd half. They will be a seller if they get swept by Cleveland and should be.

After watching him in the AS game, I thought he was untouchable. They sure made him look human. 

Ryan didn’t go on the IL directly after that Atlanta game but continued to pitch for 4 or 5 more starts, ineffectively, and finally then decided to tell the team he had been pitching hurt with a groin injury since the Atlanta game - a major piece of horrible communication, almost deception. That’s why I think he is injured again. Has anything come out yet?

Ok, thanks for clarification. Nothing posted yet regarding a Ryan injury. He may be good physically. It was surprising how they jumped all over his FB at the top of the zone. Ryan’s bread and butter getting clobbered is concerning.

I love Tom Hamilton, but at one point last night he referred to Jenkins as Walter Jenkins.

Mr. Hamilton, you are one of my favorite broadcasters, however for that faux pas, I'm gonna have to deduct 2 points from your wins above replacement.

I am finding this thread to be very therapeutic… just knowing so many others feel the same pain of being a Minnesota Twins fan makes me laugh. It’s like a support group where everyone already knows the ending, but we show up anyway.
