Whammy Verified Member Posted May 30 Posted May 30 I did not see this coming. Especially with Rojas going on the IL I suppose if he’s ever going to get through waivers, this is the time.
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted May 30 Posted May 30 This is sad. Surprised they would bail like that. Not like we’re swimming in healthy pitching options. Shocked. thelanges5, jaimedude and Vanimal46 3
LewFordLives Verified Member Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Wow! This is shocking. He won't clear waivers. I wonder if something went on behind the scenes. As others said, the timing is odd given the injuries to the staff.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Why would you give up on a 25 year old who was decent for two years? And keep old guys who haven't been good ever? WTF is going on with this club? jaimedude, big dog and thelanges5 3

Patzky Old-Timey Member Posted May 30 Posted May 30 The Twins designated SWR for assignment this morning, calling RP John Klein up in a corresponding move. Woods Richardson was designated for assignment after he posted a 0-7 record and 7.74 ERA in 47⅔ innings this season. If he clears waivers it's likely he would be sent to the Saints.
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Kinda 💩y to DFA a guy two days after he takes one for the team and fills in after an injury Squirrel, shortround81 and Mike Sixel 3
bean5302 Verified Member Posted May 30 Posted May 30 I do think the Twins should have moved him to the bullpen because I don't think he'll clear waivers. Maybe the Twins have a trade they're trying to pull off? There are some teams who are going to look at his results the past couple years and conclude he's at least worth checking out, I would think. Here's a link to the article on MLBTR. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2026/05/twins-designate-simeon-woods-richardson-for-assignment.html thelanges5 1
thelanges5 Verified Member Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Wow, maybe they already have another team that wants him and that’ll become apparent soon. Otherwise I’m surprised, he will get snatched up even though he hasn’t pitched that well.

WTF is going on with this club? I agree with this. Still, SWR has put the team into a bad position with his performance this year . you can't continue to start him and he doesn't profile as a good reliever. Transitioning to reliever for someone without a dominant pitch or 2 will probably take some time. Hosken Bombo Disco 1

Whammy Verified Member Posted May 30 Author Posted May 30 I assume the Twins thought that having him on the MLB club was unsustainable and that the only possible way to move forward was to get him to AAA. Then, based on his recent performances thought that if he’s ever going to clear waivers, this is when it would happen. We’ll see. Part of me thinks “of course someone is going to claim him” but then another part of me thinks “who’s actually going to roster him.” It’s not like the Twins are some upper echelon club and he was tanking us. The list of teams in May who can roster a guy like this is pretty small.
jaimedude Verified Member Posted May 30 Posted May 30 DFA'ing a 25 year old pitcher with potential, while keeping 4AAA players like Outman MLB strike out king, two catchers who cannot hit a lick in Caratini and Jackson, hanging onto MLB roster a second basemen in Keaschall who makes unforced, unfocused errors on defense. Starting 3 players who are utility players at best and Old by MLB standards in Kriedler, Gray, and Arcia. Twins franchise is a giant S show being run by a fraternity of front office and managerial staff that have proven to be non-comtenders or winners. Twins are the used bubble gum franchise being chewed again of MLB Drafts and trades have been huge busts for 7 years. Twins are still stuck with Pohlads as owners. Not a lot of fun in Twinsville. Hope they can turn it around. Good luck to SWR, hope your next team and you get it figured out. Mike Sixel 1

I would argue the starting pitching has been adequate as has the bullpen at times. Twins poor defense, errors and lack clutch hitting is contributing as much to effects on pitching on losses as anything else.. The catching and receiving especially has an effect on starting pitching. You are right though, that has nothing to do with SWR pitching poorly out of the rotation. Maybe they will get a lottery ticket in the DFA exchange. Not sure why team is only carrying 38 on 40 man roster.

jaimedude Verified Member Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Have there been any recent updates on Mick Abel or David Festa and possible starting rehab assignments? I would think by June if Festa isn't showing any improvement on the T outlet syndrome it may be time to 60 day IL a player like Festa and make use of his 40 man spot.

Joe Ryan and Taj Bradley and Mick Abel and Hendry Mendez were all acquired via trade as was Gabby Gonzalez. Drafting Walker Jenkins and Emmanuel Rodriguez and Brooks Lee were good calls. On the down side, Lewis and Josh Bell and Max Kepler and James Outman. If SWR is DFA’d, so should Outman. He’s not a viable major league player. Can’t hit a lick! Bell could be DFA’s and give Sabato a chance. Fedko could replace outman. As I write this, the patience of a long suffering Twins fan is being put to the test w Ober leading the charge to a 7-1 deficit in the 2nd. Let’s make it Mendez, Sabato and Fedko. They can replace the contingent of can’t hit current Twins that the FO is holding onto. Oh, yeah, I want Culpepper up at SS as well. Mendez LF Buxton CF (Fedko backup) RF Martin 3B Lee SS Culpepper 2B Keaschall 1B Sabato DH Larnach/Fedko C Jackson/Caratini and get well Jeffers and extend!

I understood why they kept Kiersey jr last year, he was good defender had a decent arm., could ocassionally generate a hit. Outman is fast, nothing else. He strikes out like Joey Gallo at plate, with no power, and has a weak throwing arm. Not an MLB level player. Richie the Rally Goat 1

Zoll was the top of the org chart for people with only Baseball Operations in their Title. Falvey had Business in his title as well, meaning he was likely not in the weeds as much. Zoll is still top of the org chart for baseball operations but there isn’t anyone between him and a Pohlad. Zoll’s job has added duties, no doubt about it, but from what I’ve read it’s not a night and day thing.

jaimedude Verified Member Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Lack of pitching depth, and Twins DFA SWR, make it make some sense. Zoll has no recognizable plan, that makes sense. Already sent John Klein back to the minors, so seems like a knee jerk reaction rather than strategic plan. This franchise is in desperate need of good talent evaluators, scouts, and strong baseball background leaders. Mike Sixel and Richie the Rally Goat 2
