4 hits from the offense with 6 walks….. the more selective approach is really paying off so far & contributing to runs scored. Buxton scored w/o a hit. Jeffers looked like he was/is really locked in! He barreled a line drive at LF for an out at 113+ MPH exit - then his 2nd deck HR was 111 MPH exit.

Facing a very effective pitcher tonight but somehow they need to pump up that hit total to have a chance for W……..:SWR needs to keep steam in it for 4-5 innings & I’d be satisfied.

Who’s going to start on Thursday? Matthews? Rojas as bulk guy? ……….. maybe Prielipp with Zebby Friday? Who matches best against Miami’s offense might drive the choice?

Congratulations, Bailey Ober! That was a fun way to spend a Monday evening.

Thank you, Derek Shelton, for letting him go the distance.

He did pitch a Complete Game in ‘24 with same 89 pitch count …… different Manager. Many managerial decisions are pretty basic common sense. There’s not a Manager in baseball that doesn’t let a 30 year old vet, that’s given up two hits and zero walks, go out for the 9th when pitch count is in low ‘80’s. Shelton is doing a nice job with what he’s got to work with! Last night was pretty straightforward.

Big time confidence in Ober when he decided to try to set-up Buxton to score with Larnach running! Basically, he was showing he thought scratching out one run might be enough for Bailey. That was nice Managing! …….good results get praised is bottom line

The difference between a great Silva game and this game for Ober is that the soft contact Silva would allow would be ground balls. Ober had a variety of pop flies and cans of corn to the outfield.

Honestly, the more plays to the outfielders and fewer to the infielders, the more comfortable I am.

What an enjoyable evening, loved it.

Will second the above comments about enjoying Shelton manage this team.  Couldn't be happier for Ober after all the talk seemingly forever about his lack of velo.

Beginning to believe that Jeffers may be the most important Twin to get an extension before year's end.  Young man is growing into both an excellent player and a team leader.  We don't know when Tait will arrive but seems there would be a spot for both on a future Twins team.

Wait, you mean a pitcher can survive facing the opposing lineup two or (gasp) three times! Someone call Rocco and Falvey to let them know it is possible.
Loved listening to Molitors’s comments about Jeffers being able to get in a groove at the plate due to being in the lineup more often vs. sitting every other game during Rocco/Falvey. A catcher can play 2/3 of games and won’t explode! Add that to the list of dumb rules Rocco forced onto the team. And the double steal….. So nice to watch a game with Shelton managing.

When Jeffers hit his homer, he looked like a jumbo Harmon. The same glance at the ball with a couple of walking steps towards first base.

Thanks for that. When I read it I could picture it in my mind. He’s kind of got the quiet approach at the plate that Harmon had too. He squared up two as well as you can.

What keeps baseball interesting for so long (nearly 70 years!) is its stunning improbabilities! Ober seemed to be on the rocks earlier in the season and tonight he pulls off an absolute gem and ends up with a complete game victory that was just two hits shy of a perfect game. He may give up 7 earned in 4 innings next time out, but no one can take this away from him! Gotta' love this game.

Great post by a true baseball fan. Thanks Knothole.

Velocity? We don’t need no stinkin’ velocity.     Now, SLO-Mo Ober needs to fully  embrace this philosophy.    Every two or three decades, an MLB pitcher brings back the ultimate slow-pitch, the EEPHUS PITCH.   It’s well beyond Ober-due!
Dave LaRoche had his La-Lob in the Eighties.   In this era, of fireballers, the fans need the return of the EEPHUS.   Bailey can bring it back and should call it the OBER-UNDER!

Remarkable…fun to watch.

It doesn’t go down in the books as a no-hitter, but it’s truly more impressive than a lot of no-hitter’s (excluding perfect games), when you consider the zero walks and number of pitches needed to get 27 outs.
