Welp. Postponed.

Split DHer tomorrow.

It's not raining at TF.

Yeah that is wild to call the game today. It’s barely sprinkling west of TF.

I believe that's an Eric Clapton written tune.

But he might be contacting his litigation staff right now.

J. J. Cale.

I don't lie.

His acoustic version of "Over the Rainbow" was barely known until Judy Garland did her cover of it.

I didn't know the specific area of the strike zone as determined by Major League Baseball, so I went to MLB's website today and found this, which has been in place since 1996:

“The Strike Zone is that area over home plate the upper limit of which is a horizontal line at the midpoint between the top of the shoulders and the top of the uniform pants, and the lower level is a line at the bottom of the knees. The Strike Zone shall be determined from the batter's stance as the batter is prepared to swing at a pitched ball."

That may be common knowledge here, but this was news to me. I'm still looking on the site for the legal proviso regarding Angel Hernandez's strike zone...perhaps that was removed after his retirement.

Appreciate you putting yourself out here like that. Add to that the ball only has to nick that imaginary line and most fans don't actually know what the zone is. There is an appendix with a picture as well.

Now that this definition and lay it over the box you see on TV and it's startling inaccuracy comes to can't look away levels of awful. I look at the batter in his stance and think the box is wrong. Then know the ump doesn't agree with it either.

Remove the box!

There is no Angel Hernandez addendum.

And it's three dimensional.

And over home plate, not parallel to where the hitter stands in the box, whi h is usually pushed back toward the catcher as far as legal. Or even a bit more.

Don't just remove the box. BAN its mere mentioning. It literally kills the enjoyment of the game thread many nights.

Plus you don't even need the box to know when the Twins' *ahem* more selective hitters are getting jobbed by the umpire.  😊

Wallner or  a pitcher ?

Is it one for each game? Kepler maybe could use another day .. Wallner for one Varland (or Funderburk) the other.

Don't stop there, ban lineups. The mere existence of lineups kills more game threads than all the things the CDC has ever heard of. 😂

If Kepler is out I would put him on IL. He doesn’t play well injured. Call up Wallner for his spot and call up Julien for the extra.

Calling up Varland isn’t needed and won’t be utilized well. They have a day off Monday so the starters who already just had an extra day will be on track. If they do call up Varland they need to be willing to let him go deep in the game to avoid relying too much on the pen in one of the games.

He got a base hit in his one opportunity after being plunked.  I suggest someone on the bench just keep playfully tapping him on that spot on the arm, to keep his head in the game.

I was supposed to raise the Twins flag before the game so this one stings. But this is the frst time since TF opened I've been at a game that has been weathered out. Only other 2 I had tickets for that were postponed were the last 2 home openers but those were postponed a day or 2 ahead of time.

Pending whether they lower the flag in between games tomorrow I will be raising it for game 2. If not I should get a chance another game.

Also it was called before it even started raining and they could have got the game in as it was no more than light rain.

Yes indeed. I forgot about how crazy that can be.

Do you think swelling is going to make it more difficult in the next week? I don’t know. If he was not healthy enough to be in the line up today due to swelling I would wonder. We saw how he did at the start of the season after he was injured batting game 1. We also saw him try to play injured two years ago without success. Maybe it is minor. If he needs a second day off tomorrow due to pain or swelling I would IL him.

Speaking of Cale, I like to cook it using a little olive oil. That makes it slide out of the pan a little easier when I’m dumping it in the trash.

A visit to an Asheville NC restaurant changed my view. Sauted in a little oil as you say (I think sesame oil was involved), garlic, lemon, some brown sugar, grated ginger - that was what I could reverse engineer, and it turned my opinion around completely.

Then again maybe anything bathed in a thickened gingery lemonade, with a little cooked garlic and sesame, is probably improved except my morning corn flakes.
