He's a below average hitter without a position who was due arbitration. 

He settled for a minor league deal with a camp invite from the Twins last winter. He wasn't in demand. 

And for the record,  he's almost exactly at his career norms this year.

I think he has played better in the field than anyone expected. He’s been a real asset on the bases, as well. I continue to wonder whether the Twins will be able to roster Kyle Farmer, Donnie Barrels and Austin Martin next year.
