High heat Verified Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Cleveland DFAed Franmil Reyes. With the Outfield injuries is he a guy the Twins would claim to use atleast until Larnach and Garlick get healthy? 26 yr old with massive power (Sano like at bats tho) and contract is like 4 million for the year so around a million left.

Well your last 2 nights the corner outfielders and DH have been Tim Backham, Jake Cave and Mark Contreras. Would he produce more then any of those 3? He always looked pretty solid against MN when we faced him.
mrtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Guardiins pick up Sano aand then yes on Franmill , that way its a even trade, Both are MAJOR Flops
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Given how torn up the outfield is right now, I might give him a shot.

Tempting. When he’s right, he’s scary. But what went wrong?
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Celestino and Kepler are back. The outfield is regenerating 3hp/round.
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Interesting idea. Full confession, don't know how his glove is. Bad 2022, but only 27yo tomorrow and with power and a solid quad slash line for his career until 2022. And the Guardians just gave up on him? Seems very strange to me. Kepler and Celestino back are very good things. Gordon just keeps contributing. Jury is still very much out on Larnach and AK for the rest of the year. But Reyes is RH hitter, so his comp would be Garlick in this case. I'd rather have the player I know, who has filled his role well thus far, if healthy and back. To me, it depends how Garlick is doing and when expected back. If there's uncertainty, then why not a flier on Reyes and hope to catch lightning?
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 The scouting report in OOTP, which they put some effort into and you are free to disregard, has him as terrible in the OF, a decent RF arm being the only redeeming feature. The Guardians used him rarely out there, mainly DH. If he can't hit either, and this year he hasn't, then he's of no value to anyone. We have enough guys who profile best as DH already.
CRF Verified Member Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 Wouldn't mind him here, but it won't happen.
bighat Verified Member Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 Aside from Buxton, there isn't anyone else on the team who is going to hit 20 HR this year. I'd take Reyes over Celestino and Garlick in a heartbeat, at least for the remainder of this year. This Twins bats are in a deep slump and I don't think this type of gamble would be the worst idea. I'd applaud of I saw the Twins make this move.

puckstopper1 Verified Member Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 H*#l NO! The Guardians had the courage to DFA their Big Whiff even though he had options left. The Twins did not - yet.....
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 I'd say no. But I'd also say, "wow. Didn't see that coming."

I wouldn't claim him but if nobody else does and they end up letting him go in 10 days I'd certainly consider it. 10 days is a long time. Hard to imagine Larnach or Kiriloff won't suffer another injury by then--even if they're not playing.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 He was the last player Cleveland had from their big Bauer trade. It's fun to see Cleveland whiff as badly as Reyes did.
