I think that was a 2020 problem. Teams are certainly tighter with prospects then they were when Terry Ryan made a name for himself, but I think competitive teams who want to win now will still play ball. Mike Clevinger got Aries last year, and Quantrill was a top 50 guy the year before but he lost his prospect eligibility. The Padres also traded Taylor Trammel last year to Seattle.

But last year was an infamously tight trade deadline, there weren't many sellers.

In 2019 Greinke got Bakauskas and Corbin Martin. Somehow Shane Greene got Joey Wentz. Derek Fischer got moved but that was an oddball situation. Jazz Chisholm got moved too.

You could be right....and you have good facts. So far this year, ZERO top 100 prospects have moved (likely changing with Sherzer and Berrios....but I think most here will be disappointed, and wrong to be so, about the return).

I think we all agree that trading just for the sake of trading is not very productive. So we have to know what the FO plan is going forward. As of now, they are telling us they want to be in the hunt next season.

If we take them at their word, you only trade Berrios if it makes the team better next year. Problem is he probably won't re-sign here if we wait. So I guess you must take the very best offer.

Trading Buxton is not a good idea...especially now, since they really don't have to. you do everything you can to keep him. Thats one trade I would not make.

Anyone else....if it makes the team better, do it. For some its addition by subtraction (any of the pathetic pitchers who have stunk the place out this year) For others, like Cave and Simmons, get what you can and smile. I'd hand on to Kepler unless the deal is too good to not make. Ditto Donaldson. Give him another year to hopefully be in the same lineup as Buxton for more than a week or two. I'd like to see that.

The more I read the more interesting he becomes. Maybe a package built around pitching with Amaya as part of it works. My only concern is Amaya is not hitting at all in AA this year (.218/.301/.366) so he may still be a couple of years out.

Yup, he will not be ready next year, but with the SS FA market ahead, the Twins can likely sign a good defender for a year or two.

And as you suggested, I think it would be wise to get Amaya included if possible. The bat problem might just be the move from A+ to AA, which is generally referred to as the hardest jump. Hopefully it's just an adjustment period. His glove is solid from what I read.

The ACL surgery may have the Twins brass worried about Royce Lewis as a SS when he comes back and moving him to CF may be the reason the Twins offered a raw deal to Buxton.

Plus, you can never have too many shortstops in the system.

Joe Ryan has a really good chance to be on the next published Top 100 lists. He was #98 before the 2020 season and has only improved his stock since then.

Have to believe this a Kershaw insurance move or possible Lefty bullpen piece move for them.  So far return is PTBNL so the return likely rests on just how well Duffey does in Dodger blue.  As always a good move by Friedman.  I still think he ends up with Sherzer but we will see.

Disappointing. But if the Dodgers are willing to settle for a good pitcher on an expiring contract, injury considerations aside, extracting a king's ransom for 1.5 years of Berrios might need a different trade partner.

Then again, could also be two teams negotiating through the media.... :) "Gettin' lotsa offers on Berrios, just FYI." "Thinkin' hard about someone else, in case you're wonderin'."

I like Pepiot, Lux not so much.  Light hitting, questionable fielding SS?  Why?

Pepiot as headliner for Berrios is insufficient.  Period.  He should be the second piece.

How will we know what the alternatives were to what they end up getting?  Hard to judge when we don't know what they turned down.

If Pineda is on the roster, they blew it. That's minimum...... Feel free to disagree.

Ah ha ... I thought you meant what they got for Berrios because there was a bunch of Berrios focused posts.  My bad and I absolutely agree on Pineda.  I also can't imagine he does not get moved.  The one I am wondering about is Robles.  I guess it does not matter much because he is not going to bring much back.

Ya, that wasn't my most clear post.....

The only guy that has to get moved is Pineda. I'd also like Berrios moved, as it seems clear he's not signing here. Other than that? Ineffective or injured guys are the issue right now......

It's unfortunate that both Robles and Colome have sucked.  At the risk of stating the obvious, those guys could have brought back something decent.

Lux pretty much raked his whole minor league career. Don't know that I'd relegate a 23 year old to the scrap heap after 400 ab's.

At any rate, I would be extremely surprised were he available with Seager scheduled for free agency this winter.

If they hadn't sucked, the Twins might not be aggressive sellers....probably needed more than those two to be good, but still.....

They definitely have the pieces.  Let's hope they are willing to include one of them very high on the list.  I just don't know what to expect with how tight teams have been with top prospects.  What's realistic from the Jays?

This will never happen:

Berrios and Rortverdt

One of their top 3 starters, one of their top 2 catchers, a pitcher and a SS in the 40 range.
