Hendricks is pitching the perfect way to beat the Twins -- just throw all off-speed stuff out of the zone.  Twins hitters aren't disciplined enough to lay off them.

How about the hesitation on the strikeout pitch to end the inning?  Hamilton should have been on 3rd!  That was a nice sleight-of-hand (or is it sleight-of-leg?) by the lefty.

Maybe the Twins should try small ball. Let Buck bunt his way to first, let him steal, score him on sac bunts.

 

I have lost my faith that the Twins will score if they keep hacking at pitches like that.

And like Hamilton earlier, what the f is the point of having Buxton in the leadoff spot and getting on base to start the 9th in a 1-0 game if you're not going to run him????  Make them make a play!!

Pathetic.  I hate what this game has become and we let stupid analytics rule decisions.  You have a weapon like Buxton and you let him rot on first base and end up getting doubled up.  He should have at least had an attempt on 2nd by the 2nd pitch of that Donaldson AB.  If he gets thrown out, hat tip to the battery for getting it done.  But more likely, he steals the bag and then it forces Jeffress to alter his approach.  But nope, let's just keep the speed in the stable and hope someone mashes one onto Waveland Avenue.  

 

These guys are once again gonna be the butt of the jokes when the postseason arrives.

So, why didn't Buxton steal? If ever there was a time. Horrible effort by Twins hitters....again. Weak AB's. Maybe they should drop to 3rd to avoid the Yanks. In a 3 game series, we don't measure up at all. Of course right now we couldn't beat anyone.

 

This has been a total team 'effort' in futility.

AS for facing our 'demons'...the Yanks...Twins haven't won a playoff series since Lincoln was president so it would be better for them to gain at least a little confidence first by beating anyone else, before facing NY. We won't beat NY so I'd like to see us win at least one playoff series.

 

Anyway, not stealing Buxton was a total braincramp by Rocco. He steals and perhaps Donaldson's grounder gets him over to 3rd...but it would have changed the entire inning. When you don't trust anything, you lose. Twins are terrible right now.

Second guess is always better. Sure, if you know Donaldson is going to hit a three-hopper into the shift, you send the runner. The team is counting on the heart of the order--Donaldson, Cruz, Rosario and Sanó to produce, which is the right call. For all of his speed, Buxton is still not an accomplished base stealer. Maybe he develops that skill, I sure hope so. 

 

You don't have to look very far to see the problems with the Twins. They are almost totally homer dependent. Line drives seem to be a thing of the past and 300 foot fly balls are just too common. The Twins have fewer doubles per game than every team, they don't steal bases and if the ball doesn't go over the fence, it takes a lot of singles and walks to score. 

 

Player after player--Polanco, Arraez, Kepler, Gonzalez, Garver, has fallen off dramatically. Sanó, Rosario, Cruz are down in OPS a bit. Only Buxton has been better than last year and as noted, it's not complete (only two walks and 1 stolen base). 

 

Last year, the Twins scored over 800 runs, this year if the season was 162 games, they'd barely score 700. Pitching and defense are much improved, but for a team built around offense, they have really let down there.

You have to find a way to move Buxton to 2nd in the 9th. Put your pride aside and make Donaldson bunt the guy over.  If he chooses not to, then let him kick dirt in the dugout and watch the game from the bench.  No excuse for not executing small ball there.  Here is where I would have had someone else bat 3rd in lineup, and Cruz at 4-hole.  1st base open, do you walk the guy to setup double play most likely.  Cruz would have been walked imo.  Rosario as your cleanup hitter is laughable day in day out.  Insert Wade in the lineup in the 2 or 3 hole.  No expected power, but contact, work the count put the ball in play. Cave pouts when his one swing per at bat doesn't go his way.  Where has the hustle gone.  Nobody on this team runs out a ground ball.  High priced players will be hitting the golf courses early October

You can't expect someone like Buxton to steal more than the one base he has this season. He's no Robbie Grossman (who has 8x the amount of SB).
