Brent Rooker, it is your time to show what you've got.

It has always intrigued me how the Twins organization has treated having an overabundance of outfielders in the past. Jason Kubel never seemed to get enough at bats, Michael Cuddyer was thrown around the playing field, Delmon Young and Miguel Sano were allowed to even be out there, and the list goes on. Currently, us fans are extremely lucky to have Rosario, Kepler, Buxton, and Gonzalez being out there most days. However, Rooker, Kirilloff, Larnach, and even Royce Lewis are knocking at the doorstep, and they will need opportunities soon.

I was looking back at some old writings of mine a couple weeks ago, and I wrote about the Twins a lot in elementary school. A constant phrase I used was "Torii Hunter deserves a LOT of money." As we know, the Twins let him go (even though he was well worth the money that he got), as other outfielders needed to be either on the team or traded. It has to be tough as a front office to decide between paying experienced guys or letting young prospects have a shot. Let's hope the kid from Mississippi State can make some of these choices extremely tough.

Twins

SP: Randy Dobnak (5-2, 3.12 ERA)

SS Jorge Polanco (S)

3B Josh Donaldson ®

DH Nelson Cruz ®

1B Miguel Sano ®

RF Marwin Gonzalez (S)

2B Ehire Adrianza (S)

LF Brent Rooker ®

CF Jake Cave (L)

C Ryan Jeffers ®

Tigers

SP: Matthew Boyd (1-4, 7.27 ERA)

CF Victor Reyes

2B Jonathan Schoop

DH Miguel Cabrera

1B Jeimer Candelario

SS Willi Castro

LF Christin Stewart

RF Travis Demeritte

C Austin Romine

3B Isaac Paredes

The Twins NEED at least a split in this doubleheader. With Randy Dobnak and a bullpen game, I am fairly sure this will happen. Watch out for a tortuga sighting in the second game.

Let's play ball!

As a fellow Bulldog I am especially pulling big-time for Mr Rooker - hopefully he can help change our performance against Lefties.

Where is Buxton?  With Boyd on the mound, where is he?

We are going to need a Kremlinologist to crack Baldelli's code when it comes to why he is not playing certain guys.

At least Buck is not on the 10 day.

I won't be concerned unless Buxton has the second game off as well. I'll not be surprised if Donaldson sits out Game 2 as they work guys back in.

Fun fact:

Miguel Cabrera is still guaranteed $94m after this season.

And that could increase by $60m if he finishes in the top 10 in MVP voting in 2023/24! Seriously, though, I'll take just $20m per year, and if I OPS below .800, the Tigers only have to pay me half. Deal?

Does a win at home playing as the road team count as a road win or home win?

This being a game thread, do I really have to tell you the answer?

Yes.

I'm going to miss Blyleven, but More Morneau is a good thing. Has Tori been in the booth this year? I wouldn't mind a T.K. game. I find them odd, but informative

This fact is ESPECIALLY fun for Miggy.

Out of curiosity I looked up what Miggy could be playing for, besides the boat load of cash due to him. He's 155 hits away from 3,000, and 18 HRs away from 500. He's been a replacement level player or worse for the last 4 years, and still has a career batting average of .314!

Does anyone understand why we're still playing Marwin  Gonzalez almost every day? I understand why we're playing him today with a double header and Kepler on the IL, but other than that he needs to sit out. Last 30 games - .196/.267/.275 (.542). That's even worse than Cave - .222/.282/.347(.629).

I'm hoping Rooker looks good and maybe we give Larnach a shot. We need help past the starting 3 OFs.

Basically just because he's so versatile defensively, and the Twins don't have many other good options right now. I agree, he has been awful at the plate, but so has most of the rest of team. I would love it if a couple guys stepped up and made it so that he doesn't have to play so often, but that hasn't happened.

Depending on the year that could be a compliment or an insult...

He had one really good year with the Twins, the one where he walked almost no one, and was so-so the rest of his time here. I checked BBRef and he was pretty good in three of four seasons. He led the AL in homers allowed in the one poor season. Overall his ERA plus was 102 and he finished his time in Minnesota with a winning record.
