The options were to either let a pitch-to-contact guy go out and face the lineup for a third time, or turn to our deep bullpen that has been mostly dominant this season to get six outs. I know which one I'd choose.

There's a bullpen game coming up next. Why use your best guy right now?

Dobnak hadn't given up a baserunner in two innings.

Hopefully they got something left in October. I have a bad feeling about that.

Why take Dobnak out? Rocco has sure made some stupid decisions lately with bullpen usage... 61 pitches!!

Damned if you do. Damned if you don't. We'll never know. Wish we had scored a run in the last 4 innings so Baldelli didn't have to make that decision

Did you see how Duffey and Jeffers set up Miguel Cabrera for strike three?

Duffey hits the inside line high. Cabrera looks back at ump, 'are you sure?' I have seen hitters lure another pitch to that spot by acting like they thought it was a ball. Joe Mauer used to do that with outside pitches.

I'm muttering to the TV, "Don't fall for it, don't fall for it..."

Jeffers positions his glove high and inside. Oh, no...!

Duffey zings a heater high and...OUTSIDE! Cabrera swings at an inside pitch spot. Whiff!

OMG, that was Tyler Duffey out-smarting Miguel Cabrera, with help from Jeffers, who bluffed his spot.

It's a 60-game regular season... how often do we worry about a bullpen being gassed after 60 games?

Our bullpen has indeed been used much more than it was used last season through 40ish games, but the bullpen is also much deeper this season. Go take a look at how many innings our best relievers have pitched this season and tell me which one of them has been overworked.

Duffey was on today but I disagree very much with taking out Dobnak after 61 pitches. We talk about the fickleness of relievers, and I would rather continue using a pitcher who's in a groove instead of trusting a reliever who may or may not have it that day.

7 games in 5 days before their next off day. The bullpen may be rested today but they won't be after the 2nd game and following couple of days.

I probably would have let Randy start the inning with a quick hook ready but given that the lineup flipped and the Tigers had just seen Dobnak a few days ago, I can't really quibble with playing for the win right now, especially given that only two innings were left in the game.

Rogers sure makes me nervous.

TRE. Taylor Rogers Experience. Do we know if he spent a lot of time with Rodney while he was here? Looks like it.

TWINS WIN!!

Other than the first 2 hitters for the Twins, we didn't do much against Boyd, but I will take a win. Dobnak battled with himself again, but pulled out a victory. Duffey was fantastic, and Rogers got the job done. The defense was fantastic.

See y'all in 30 minutes,

Go Twins!!!

I wish the high school games I umpired went that quickly for 7 innings.

Wasn't a fan of pulling Dobnak but it worked out ok.  Just means that Rogers and Duff won't be available for Game 2.  Hopefully, Twins score more than enough runs so we don't have to sweat it.

I was using AB as a shorthand for PA

Kinda like how people in the south order a “coke” :)

I mean if y'all want to waste time, breath and syllables saying "coca-cola" that's your prerogative :D

Guessing the lineup for Game 2:

SS Polanco

3B Gonzalez

DH Cruz

RF Rosario

1B Sano

C Astudillo

CF Buxton

LF Rooker

2B Adrianza

SP - Clippard

Wait to see what Gardy trots out there but this is probably going to be another low scoring game.

Whatever the reason, Baldelli has always removed Dobnak earlier than later. The bullpen has been used a lot, but they have 15 pitchers. There are eight pitchers available to pitch the seven innings of the nightcap. If they can get a couple innings out of two or three guys, there should be plenty left to go tomorrow.

I know it hasn't been a pretty outing so far (despite giving up zero runs), but Dobnak has a chance to finish this game, doesn't he?

Rocco took him out after 5, which I am OK with. Tigers obviously know how to attack hin, and gotta win at least 1 today. Good win!
