Rung him up on a pitch outside the box.

Fitting

And I'll take it.  :)

I think that the ump was consistently calling that a strike. At least it was consistent.

Game over, man. Where's Bill Paxton? :)

A thought: what would the defense be like if we had Buxton play shortstop?

then we have no idea whether he "dotted" any upper or lower corner.

Actually, we do. Since the projected zone doesn't appear to change size, then the actual zone should be larger for a big guy like Sano. Thus, the high strikes may well have been a couple inches from the top of a realistic strike zone for Sano. You're right, they didn't dot the corners. They were a couple inches below the corners.

I "liked" your post, but feel kinda bad about it. I mean, nobody cheers for injuries. But this is abdominal tightness, not related to his arm...sounds like one of those things that bites a guy after sitting on the shelf for a few months.

Magic number is 36

Actually a couple of games less. Because that number presumes the second place team runs the board, but since we have 6 of the remaining 38(?) games against Cleveland, all we have to do is win 34, and a couple of those have to be against them.

Science.

We have to go 34-4 to win the division? I guess I shouldn’t have settled for that liberal arts education. I’ve been thinking we’re in better shape than that.

For that Sano at-bat, MLB’s pitch tracking had two of the pitches just inside the zone and two outside the zone. Regardless of the box being used, Sano did his job by not offering at any of those pitches once he was ahead in the count.

Anyone else think that playing playoff baseball before the playoffs is advantageous to locking up your spot early? Not the wildcard playoff since you burn your ace but in a division battle where every pitch matters. I don't know if stats back it up but it seems like getting into that mindset is good.

I think this is a very real thing. Getting players amped and under pressure for a month or two puts them in the mindset of what is needed for the postseason.

But it would have been maybe something more substantial had the Twins not kinda crapped all over the bed against their closest opponent a week ago.

Very inconsistent zone, no question and he did Clase no favors.

I will say that 100 mph fastballs don't guarantee success. Remember that when Graterol is recalled.

Go back and watch the Texas catcher. He was literally jumping out from behind the plate time and time again.

The pitcher isn't going to get a strike call when the catcher is jumping around, and if the catcher is moving the glove around erratically, then the same applies. That's just how baseball works.
