Miller: Twins DFA Hughes

In a tweet a few minutes ago Phil Miller says the Twins have DFA Phil Hughes.

Looks like Hughes time with the Twins is finally coming to an end. I applaud his one great year and still cringe at the unnecessary contract extension.

He seems like a really good guy, but I’m excited to see what the team can do with that extra roster spot. Good luck to him in his recovery and all that.

Not particularly surprising at this juncture. Some may express shock at the Twins eating the remaining dollars, but this is a new management team that seems to generally make more aggressive decisions than the previous one. The move to the bullpen was a sign that this may not be far off.

 

Best of luck to Hughes. Hope he can salvage his career in some way.

I'll comment on this thread since Levi perfectly captures my feelings in a GIF.  Interesting timing, especially  after looking at Tom's bullpen usage chart just now.  Lots of green.  

 

Maybe they didn't want it to look like they were making him the fall guy for a losing streak?  That seems like a stand up thing to do for a stand up guy.  Maybe he ends up in Rochester?

Wow. Feel bad for Hughes as I think he worked real hard but obviously it wasn’t meant to be. At least he’ll make a cool few million to compensate. Love the move by the twins though.

yep. At 31 this should be a career year for him if he wants to sign a big extension or go elsewhere. Having a down year would be bad.
