Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 WKRP for the Thanksgiving episode alone is worthy of a mention. They just started playing it again on one of the antenna TV channels. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lf3mgmEdfwg Phone Cop Episode has to be near the top of best WKRPs.
ashbury Verified Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 I believe so.Research complete. Bailey was the first to volunteer, nicely setting up the joke.
Doubles Verified Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Research complete. Bailey was the first to volunteer, nicely setting up the joke.Well done, sir. Truth be told, that sort of research was a sacrifice I'd also be willing to make.
Han Joelo Verified Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Not a problem at our house. Ashburydad would say "ashburyjohn, change it to CBS," and seconds later it would happen.Yeah, but you also had to bring pliers to turn those old nobs...wait a second...is that why they call them channel lock pliers?
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Les: Johnny! Venus! You're alive! Johnny: The newsman's eye. You just can't fool it. Les: Well, that's wonderful. Venus: Gee thanks, Les. Les: Of course, I'll have to update my story. How'd you like it, Andy? Andy: How'd I like what, Les? Les: My four o'clock news report. Didn't you listen? Andy: Les, the transmitter blew up! Les: Of course! That was my lead! Johnny: You led off the newscast by telling them that we're off the air? Les: No. But I can include that in my update.

ashbury Verified Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Yeah, but you also had to bring pliers to turn those old nobs...wait a second...is that why they call them channel lock pliers?I'm not sure, but it might be related to the way my Dad regretted buying discount perfume for my mom at Woolworth's, seeing it labeled Channel #5.
ashbury Verified Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Completely missed the chance at a reviewPirates announcers willing to call it straight and declare their own runner out on that tag. Too bad.
Platoon Verified Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Couple of months ago, my daughter attempted to take a dig at me and my age. She didn't go nearly as hard at me as she could have. "Yeah, remember that, Dad? Back when you had to flip your phone?" Hmmmm. Mine will have to wait a few years to diss me with that!
Doubles Verified Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Phone Cop Episode has to be near the top of best WKRPs. Yep. Also the one where Herb & his crew are profiled on a parody of the TV show 'Real People.' They called it 'Real Families.' Best ever was when the camera crew ambushes Herb & family on Sunday morning, while Herb & wife are still in bed. Empty beer cans strewn about the room. They russell up the kids, get everybody dressed up all nice, and head out to church like it was a regular part of their Sunday morning routine. The family goes up the church door, but she's locked tight. Then it dawns on Herb's wife, the annoying secretary for Edward Rooney in 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'; "It's a synagogue..."
bird Verified Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Lol @ Molitor ever making odo #1. Guys a 3 tops. Should’ve been berrios easily... I don't remember that TV show. Lol@Molitor was on just before Gunsmoke. odo #1 followed Wagon Train. Guys a 3 tops lasted 3 weeks and was replaced by Maverick. I think Foghorn Legworks made Should've been berrios up.
Platoon Verified Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 If we're talking old sitcoms and WKRP in Cincinnati doesn't come up, that's an Andy Travisty. To stay on topic, the episode where the station takes on hated rival WPIG in a softball game is an absolute riot. You know the one. Les tries to avenge a childhood wrought with violin lessons instead of ballgames by trying to round up enough players around the WKRP office to field a team. He gets only one taker- Jennifer Marlowe. "It will be a great chance for me to try out my jogging shorts." To which every other office member quickly responds with a decisive, "I"m in..." When possible Thanksgiving always includes............."as God is my witness, i thought they could fly"
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Sano needs to be moved down to the 6th spot until he can keep his K rate solidly below 35% or his AVG/OBP so high it doesn't matter. Why? Who is better?
bird Verified Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 For me, the best pure comedy made was Cheers. If one considers MASH a comedy, maybe it is better. I don't consider MASH a straight comedy though. Cherrypicking. SSS.

Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Too late to call Tampa and see if they want their first baseman back?
D. Hocking Verified Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Then it dawns on Herb's wife, the annoying secretary for Edward Rooney in 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'; "It's a synagogue..." Eddie McClurg was everywhere for awhile. She was really good in that type of role. Although I just realized recently she was in Carrie, playing the oldest teenager this side of late seasons Richie Cunningham.

twinssporto Verified Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Sorry I'm late to the party. Stopped at Kramarczuk's today in Minneapolis and picked up some sausages and potato-cheese pierogi's for dinner. Grilling sausages and browning pierogi's on stove now. Twins on TV in the background. The beers are tasting really good. Almost like my own personal home opener... I'm sure we will take the lead soon.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 I stopped to get sausages too. I'll be grilling them outside, without a coat, assuming it doesn't start raining
twinssporto Verified Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 I'm grilling outside with 12" of new snow on my deck. I'll take the rain. No coat either. Minnesota tough.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Odo getting squeezed on that walk.Hard to pitch with someone holding you, I'd imagine.
Taildragger8791 Verified Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Why? Who is better? I think as the season goes along we'll find 4-5 out of Dozier, Mauer, Buxton, Kepler, Rosario, and Morrison that would be better fits for building rallies at the top of the lineup. Unless of course Sano can keep getting an extra base hit nearly every game, in which case the 2-4 Ks are a lot easier to stomach. Doesn't seem sustainable though.
