Possibly the worst-hitting non-fielding 1B/DH in history. Truly a testament to how bad the Twins were during the disco era. Should be up there among the worst Twins of all time, partly because he stuck around so long to do as much damage to the team as possible. For context, in 1979, when his time with the Twins was done, he lasted 24 games with the Toronto Blue Jays. Who were 53-109. That ended his career. Apparently wasn't good enough to make the 1980 Blue Jays, who won 67. . . . And he was from Milwaukee.

The Third Overall Pick in the 1991 Amateur Draft, it is surprising he stuck around for parts of 11 Major League seasons. (Although he hit 136 minor league home runs)  He played two plus years for the Twins.  In 536 at bats with Minnesota, he hit  .226 with 3 home runs and 37 runs batted in.  DAVID MCCARTY

I've been a lurker for years, but this thread was so much fun I just had to post something! I used to live in Orlando and was a season ticket holder for the Orlando Twins games for many years. Saw a bunch of future MLB players before they became stars. Seeing some of the names posted already (Mark Funderburk, Willie Banks!) has brought a big smile to my face

 

I'm going to cheat and offer three names, all of whom played for Orlando and Minnesota:

 

Lenny Webster (catcher during the Willie Banks era. Met him once too; very nice man)

Jeff Reboulet (super-sub supreme!)

Tim Laudner (man, he hit a bunch of homers in AA ball)

Roger Erickson, pitcher, whose biggest fan might have been Roger Erickson, WCCO announcer.

 

Man, do I miss Boone and Erickson.  'CCO sounds like a college station now.

How about Rick Renick?  I think he's known for hitting a home run in his first game, but for my brother and me, following the Twins from New Jersey with a very small sample-size of games to see, he never seemed to come through.  I have to confess, he became sort of a joke, a symbol of Twins futility.  It has a happy ending of sorts:  Years later, as an adult, I was able to call my brother and tell him that Renick was now a coach on the 1987 team on their way to the World Series.
