Fred Bruckbauer--A Minnesota native who had a "cup of coffee" with the '61 Twins. He never recoded an out and has a lifetime ERA of infinity.

Probably, given that over 2.27 million people were at that firstgame shutout by Ramos, according to them.

Henry Blanco. I seem to remember him filling in temporarily as the starting catcher, and his bat wasn't terrible. In my memory, fans would sometimes chant/make signs to the extent of "Blanco for MVP." Now when I look at his Fangraphs page, there doesn't seem to be a single stint where this could have been possible. Am I making this up?

It was when he stepped in after Mauer blew out his knee early in his rookie season of 2004. Blanco did an incredible job.

That's right. I remember thinking that at the time, but the stats really don't bear it out. 0.4 fWAR on the season, 59 wRC+. He doesn't look much better breaking the season into parts. Nonetheless, he did his job and pumped people up. There's value in that.

My recollection is that he had a good hot streak, everyone got excited, and then he dropped into a chasm somewhere.  It was fun while it lasted, though.

I love this thread. As I read through the pages, I was hoping to be able to go with Castino, Guzman, or Nishi....but all have been snagged.

 

I'll go with another memorable Twin that is still on the board, the 2008 Twins opening day starting pitcher. When he played for the Nats later in his career me and some buds would play a game while watching called "name the speed of his slowest pitch today." Pretty sure we never saw him hit slower than 59. World Series MVP for the 1997 Marlins....
