Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 According to Jeff Passan, the Dodgers are nearing a deal for Tampa Bay Rays 2B Logan Forsythe. Such a deal would all but officially end any possibility of a Brian Dozier trade... at least to the Dodgers. Likely more to come... and relatively soon. Now Ken Rosenthal is saying that the deal is agreed upon and Jose DeLeon is in it. It's a one-for-one deal... https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/823681791827595264 Personal opinion: If that's the deal the Twins were offered, they were right to just say no.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Our long regional nightmare may soon be over!
ppearson50 Provisional Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Looks like Polanco is our shortstop this year.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Nice job making the team better, new FO.......we just can't seem to trade our veterans when they are at their peak. sigh. But, hey, it's not like every other rebuilding team uses that path to get better. Every. Single. One. But the Twins, that is. Jason Castro is it? Really? Wow.
bluechipper Provisional Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 So Jose Deleon must not be that good.
ppearson50 Provisional Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 I don't know who in the free agent market they might go after now. I think they should sign Aybar for SS and turn Polanco into super utility like Ben Zobrist.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 If the team and minors are so good they don't need to do anything to get better, why fire Ryan?
ppearson50 Provisional Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Deleon for Forsythe straight up. Probably same thing they offered to Twins.
Platoon Verified Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 I had given consideration to removing or revamping my "total system failure" tag on here. This saves me the trouble. BLEEP Then again if BD continues his solid upward plane and hits 50 this year, I will gladly remove said quote. But something tells me the plane will be more in Berts direction of angle!
gSutter Provisional Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Looks like it's time to call the Rays and see if they have interest in Dozier
bluechipper Provisional Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Deleon for Forsythe straight up. Probably same thing they offered to Twins. And that's probably why the Twins didn't make the trade, which is a good thing. The Dodgers lowballed them, and now they have a mediocre second basemen. If the deal's not there, don't take it.
ppearson50 Provisional Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 I would think if Deleon and Alverez were indeed ever offered the Twins probably would have pulled the trigger on that.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 I would think if Deleon and Alverez were indeed ever offered the Twins probably would have pulled the trigger on that.It was offered along with one of the non Lux guys drafted last year. Twins thought they had more leverage then they had and got BURNED, not a good start. 95 losses but hey, at least Dozier will hit 50 HR! Maybe they can flip him at deadline
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 now they have a mediocre second basemen.FYI, Forsythe actually has a higher bWAR per PA rate than Dozier over the past 2 years. (Dozier does have the advantage in fWAR.)

Brandon27 Verified Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 If Castro is the only free agent the Twins bring in and if you don't count minor league signings and invite to spring training and don't do any trades durning spring training and before the season starts and go into the season with the same team from last year welcome to 100+ loss and the number one pick again. The new front office going to be like same old song and dance not do anything

Well, we don't know the deal, but do people really believe they only offered De Leon and junk for Dozier, but De Leon for Forsythe? I don't.... If the Twins really turned down what Dave says, well, I give them an F.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Yeah, I fear this team will be "rebuilding" well into 2019 at this rate, no matter how much they try to spin it. You have an org in bad shape and an owner who is cheap and doesn't care, not a good combo.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Well, we don't know the deal, but do people really believe they only offered De Leon and junk for Dozier, but De Leon for Forsythe? If Alvarez or maybe Brock Stewart was also offered, then I'd be more in favor of the trade, but only Deleon has been really talked about, so maybe it was just junk that was offered.

(Dozier does have the advantage in fWAR.)I think Rays players automatically get a bump in in WAR ratings just because they're on the Rays. Dozier also has a 33 HR advantage over the last 2 years as well.

Dozier was also hurt 2nd half of 2015, when viewing Dozier you should view 2014/2015/2016 and realize he is just now entering his prime to get a good sample size. Good news is that if he continues to progress we can get a monster deal at deadljne
