Anyways the update is this:
My source is perplexed this deal hasn't gotten done yet. It sounds like the Twins are really playing hardball and he/she is hearing chatter that there might be another team that the Twins may re-engage to drive up some of their leverage with the Dodgers. Still could happen at any moment, but the sticking point at this stage is still player 3 (and player 4 potentially)

All i can say is if this IS TRUE Levine had better be damned careful that they don't piss off the Dodgers FO to the point that they throw up their hands and rescind their offer all together.  Honestly, i'd be pretty happy with De Leon and Alvarez plus a lesser pitching prospect, but that's just me.

Either way, fine line to walk here.  Dodgers aren't going to wait forever.  Sounds like nothing is going to happen for the next couple of days at least.  Anyways, got things to do and thanks for the updates Dave.

Thanks DaveW. Wanted to say that although I haven't been commenting because until today I've had a busy week at work, I do appreciate your responses and reporting. Also, given that I live in Brooklyn, we should get together to watch a game sometime next year.

I'm going to trust that Falvey and Levine know what they are doing here.  Any word on what the different options for the third piece would be? I find it hard to believe the Dodgers would give up Brock Stewart as the third piece if DeLeon and Alvarez are indeed the first two pieces. Do you think someone like Starling Heredia or Keibert Ruiz could be in play? They are kind of "lottery tickets," no? I'd also be thrilled with Imani Abdullah as a third piece. He's only been pitching 3 years at 20, but prospect gurus seem to think he has some upside.

I'd like to see them move him...but only if they get what they want.  They still have him under control for two years.  It's quite possible to hold on to him until the trade deadline and get a contending team to overpay.

Zero reason to throw in the towel at this point and take a deal that isn't overwhelmingly good.

I wouldn't worry about them pissing off the Dodgers FO at this point, it's still very very very early in the off-season for all teams, and it's not like this is the ONLY thing both teams are looking at (especially the Dodgers who are trying to get Jensen and Turner resigned)

Any idea who the other team is?

I don't.

If I had to guess it would be the Mets.
The Mets need bats and don't have a ton of salary room.

I know there has been conjecture of the Yankees getting involved, but I have a feeling they don't want to trade prospects at this time (especially after they got some real nice hauls last trade deadline)

the Mets have Walker, why would they want Dozier? Unless they're moving one to a different position. I don't know their other holes.

Nice, yes, game for sure, what part of Brooklyn?

Apparently there has been a ton of players discussed as the third piece. Guys like Lux and Stewart are almost certainly off the table though, and I tend get the feeling the Dodgers would prefer not to give up Heredia or Ruiz as well.

I think the Dodgers at this stage would prefer to send one or two guys back that none of us have really ever even heard of/won't move the needle very much, if that makes sense?

See that's why it was a bad guess for me! I would guess they could move Walker to 1st base or something?

Walker is a FA after this year, and they are paying him a whopping 17 million this season.

Yeah, that would be my only guess too if they're moving Walker to 1B or acquiring Dozier and putting him there. Still have a hard time seeing either happening though.

I'm in Williamsburg.

Yeah same here! The sooner it gets done the better.

If the first two are DeLeon and Alvarez then the the should take two lottery tickets and be done.

That's the thing, dodgers would prefer not to give up lottery ticket types, and rather AAAA types.

Gotta be someone who is sort of between those two categories that they can agree on. Or maybe not. Sigh.

There is, that is why the source has been so very confident in it happening. It's just a little more of a unique situation since unlike the deadline etc there is no real "ticking clock"

Also the Dodgers aren't in on any other 2B anyways, all the Kinsler chatter was pretty unsubstantiated since they wouldn't want to have to extend his contract.

At some point things start to drag on, which is why it could happen sooner rather than later for sure! Hopefully today!

Thank-you, Platoon.

ashburyjohn gave me some helpful comment editor tips, so I should be better next time. :whacky028:

Did you know that the comment editor doesn't like it when you put two spaces between sentences?

Because I can't break the habit, I'm just going to write one-sentence paragraphs.

Good for you. That's way more readable than a wall of text.
