I'm not sure why the sigh, but my reaction is basically ... 'So?'

Give it a shot. If it doesn't work out (which I suspect it won't, but whatever), at least he can say he tried.

Tebow from a distance appears to be a guy who's lost on what to do with his life without being on a field of some type. Good luck to him in this attempt. The odds are not stacked in his favor.

I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that he worships / believes in a deity.  Some people absolutely loathe folks like that especially high profile athletes.

Okay ... but let's not turn this thread into that. We all have our beliefs and opinions and we aren't always in agreement on that, and that's okay; and we needn't label those who think this or that because it doesn't fall into our line of thinking, so let's just stick to Tebow and baseball without interjecting/debating the other.

It's not that.  I was worried it might be a promotional stunt.  For not being very good professional athlete, Tebow sure has gotten lots of attention.  (Probably due to appeal to both the reverent and irreverent, to be fair).

I'll never undersand the dislike for Tebow. Great man. Great college QB. Worked so hard with his limited talent to make himself a 1st round pick (whether he really should have been or not). And, when he was a starter he led his team to winss, even in the playoffs.

But back to the topic at hand... He's a great athlete. Let him try. It's not his fault ESPN has made him a major celebrity. His play at Florida helped with that though. He hasn't played, but he's just asking for a tryout and teams can decide what they want. He's not going go to the big leagues because of his name. He'd have to earn it, like anyone else.

I don't see it as an attempt at gaining attention. No reason to think that. He isn't going to try to embarrass himself. I'm guessing he just really wants to give it a shot.

Great athlete, but he never even learned how to throw a football, so I don't know how he's going to play the ultimate skill sport of baseball after all these years. Good luck to him though.

My apologies then.  I also think he craves the media attention, kinda like Johnny Manziel.

I think he doesn't know what to do with his time now, as stated above......

As long as he doesn't take an oppo away from someone,  I don't care at all why it is happening.

I believe he can go back to college and play baseball should he want to. The NCAA changed the rules a few years back where a professional athlete can play a sport other than the sport he is professionally paid. It's basically what allowed Russell Wilson to play football even after playing Minor League baseball.

I'd take Tebow's attempt at baseball more seriously if he tried to make a college team, assuming there isn't some eligibility issue I'm missing.

I was a great athlete once, just like Tebow.  And here I am, spending many hours a day reading and posting on a blog.

Tebow:  Embrace your future     ;)

He would have already exhausted his eligibility while playing football for Florida

No worries. I wouldn't be surprised if a Reality Show emerged following his exploits practicing baseball and auditioning for teams, whether or not it's ultimately successful.  The Manziel-Tebow comparison is eerie given how differently their characters are perceived, yet I agree with you.

There is something pretty important missing in that write up:  His position.  I assume that he it is not SS or CF or C.  Based on a writeup praising his "strong arm", I assume that he is a corner OF.  When he played football he was listed at 6'3" and 240 lbs.   I suspect that he probably gained a few since he quit football.  Let's say 6'3"/260.  Sounds quite familiar, but 29 and having a good 11 years of rust on him...

And I'd love to see how he would take an assignment in a rookie league and making his way up...

Unless he suspects that he is good enough to sing a major league contract and play in the majors (and if that is the case, he is either delusional or had bad career choice advisers.)

Pretty sure he doesn't think that. He'll likely sign with an indy league team. I'm guessing he's probably lighter than his football playing days, but certainly he has kept working out. He'd have a lot to prove, but again, my main point is it's his choice. Go for it.

He's been working with former Twins catcher Chad Moeller who posted the below tweet. He's got some huge arms, but the bat speed here is pretty impressive. I do wonder how he'd do against changeups and breaking pitches, but that's what would have to come back.

With that swing he can come play on my Slo-Pitch team anytime.

Pitchers don't throw "changeups and breaking pitches" to bad hitters.
