Tebow giving baseball a try?

ok seriously, at the end of the day, who really cares?  If he can play, he can play. If he cannot, he cannot. His faith should have nothing to do with any of this.  He's got a showcase coming up, some ML team might give him a minor league contract, and if they do, good luck to him.

Only the "pro faith" crowd even brought it up......

I tuned in for a few minutes on sports talk radio, where we saying nothing but HOT SPORTS TAKES, over the lunch hour. Whoever was hosting that show was talking about the timing part of this announcement. He makes the announcement right before the MLB rosters are expanded.

Is this a promotional stunt to sell some jerseys? If he was serious, wouldn't he announce it over the winter and hold try-outs then? Would he really go to rookie ball league and earn his way up to the MLB? So much hotness in 5 minutes worth of listening.

Sure, because Mark Sanchez deciding to play professional baseball would have elicited so much internet excitement. I didn't realize profootballtalk was "pro faith". :)

I have no idea what this response means ..... on this thread, it was brought up by a person who automatically assumed anyone questioning this was doing so because they "hate" faith. It was a bad assumption, frankly.

I was responding to the idea that only the 'pro-faith' crowd brought it up.  That isn't the case (aka profootballtalk). Yes, those guys follow Tebow, and there's an 'anti-faith' crowd that likes to bring him up just as much. It's nauseating... from both sides. None of which has anything to do with playing baseball... My point, just ignore it. If he's good enough, he'll get the chance. If he's not, he's not. Reason why he isn't in the NFL is that people cannot seem to drop the player from his faith (either pro or con). He's not a great QB, but I cannot for the life of me believe that he is some how worse than all of the 64 second and third string QBs in the league.

I'm shocked to learn he is now selling auto graphed baseballs and bats....shocked.

Only $125 for the baseball, or $175 for a bat. What a steal!

Something to go with my autographed Herschel Walker miniature bobsled! Excellent!

Perhaps the real reasons why Tebow is trying out for baseball are coming to fruition. Tebow signs a new apparel deal with Adidas prior to the workout.

Would it surprise anyone at this point if this was just a money grab to stay relevant in the news and earn some cash with a new line of athletic clothing?

Guy has always seemed genuine to me, so I'd lean to yes, it'd surprise me. But it's possible.

MLBTR quote from back on August 31:

"The long balls that the hulking slugger drove during BP didn’t quite continue when he faced live pitching, scouts noted to Davidoff — who says the scene actually became a bit awkward as it unfolded."

So, he gets to skip days while working at ESPN.......do others get to skip to go to their part time job they need to make a living?

Good luck to him....I have doubts, but it would be a cool story.

Great point. Both the Mets and ESPN could be flexible with his schedule I suppose. That would be quite hypocritical to have a different set of rules for him compared his other teammates.

Good luck to Tebow. I'm not sold at the moment that the Mets signed him for his baseball abilities. Whether it's a pure baseball decision or a marketing ploy, business will be good for the Mets' minor league affiliates. Jersey sales and attendance will skyrocket simply because Tebow is there.

That's the thing, though. It does nothing for the Mets. They own nearly none of their affiliates, so the real beneficiaries of the media circus at his games will be the team owners where he plays, not the Mets. That's another reason I thought a team like the Yankees or Braves made a lot of sense due to the amount of their affiliates that they own and would make money off of with the media circus. You saw this when Bryce Harper was skipped over certain levels that the Nationals didn't own for similar reasons.

Unfortunately, Tebow still insists on being a quarterback. This poses a confusing dilemma for baseball managers, who aren't sure where to put him in the field. Behind the catcher? Tebow claims he can make all the throws, and it's true that his bold style would present unique challenges for the opposition. In full gear, he could literally lean over the plate, and nobody wants to tackle him as he rounds second base.

So Tebow is playing on the major league side of ST for the Mets, and let's just say it's not going well.

He went 0-3 with 2 backwards Ks, grounded into a double play, got hit by a pitch, then was doubled off at 1st base.

Red Sox manager John Farrell had this to say about Tebow:

"There’s strength in (his) BP,’’ he said. “That’s the best I can tell you.”
