Nick Nelson Site Manager Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 The Minnesota Twins are promoting top pitching prospect Jose Berrios from Triple-A. He is expected to make his major-league debut on Wednesday night against the Indians. Occasional Twins Daily contributor Ted Schwerzler was first to break the news, which has since been confirmed by several sources.Berrios was ranked by Twins Daily as the organization's No. 2 prospect heading into the season. One day after the two players who surrounded him on that list -- No. 1 Byron Buxton and No. 3 Max Kepler -- were shipped from Minnesota to Rochester, Berrios makes a trip in the opposite direction. The 22-year-old right-hander has only cemented his status as one of the best pitching talents in the minors with a phenomenal start in Triple-A, going 2-0 with a 1.06 ERA over his first three starts. In 17 innings, he allowed only eight hits (seven of them singles) while striking out 20. Berrios has occasionally battled command problems, leading to some inefficiency and eight walks, but that's the only blemish you can point to in his otherwise dominant performance. Starting pitching hasn't exactly been the biggest weakness in Minnesota's 6-14 start, but Berrios is a transcendent talent who could give the club a much-needed jolt. It's not yet clear how the Twins will make room for Berrios, although one could venture that Ervin Santana may be headed to the disabled list. Barring poor results in his first couple outings, this doesn't appear to be a temporary promotion. It will be interesting to see how Paul Molitor uses his staff when he has six healthy starters. Jham Verified Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I think it's Milone to the pen, we need a long man. Berrios to the Rotation. Duffey/Santana. nytwinsfan and gunnarthor 2

FormerMinnasotan Provisional Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Initially I could see Berrios struggle. It will take him a little while to adjust to Major League hitters and he may be a bit excited. But what I have seen so far is Berrios is smart and adjusts pretty quickly. Plus his three pitches are Major League quality stuff. Actually I am surprised, I could have sworn the Twins FO was going to wait and see with Berrios.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) I'm a believer. I think it is great he's up right now. I hope he never goes down again. I expect that at some point this year, he'll be their best starter. I expect him to over throw the first game, and not be awesome, but be good. terrydactyls Verified Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Can we have a roatation of Berrios, May, Meyer, Duffy and Gibson for the month of May and see what the future might look like? Call up Chargois to take May's bullpen spot. nytwinsfan, d-mac and ericchri 3
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Wednesday? SHOOT. I have an event I have to be at. Can they move the start time back a few hours?
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Several Cy Youngs, starting with one this year, a WS MVP, this year, and a HOF career. FTFY. James and Oldgoat_MN 2

Can they move the start time back a few hours?Rain might do that for you, the forecast for this whole home stand is pretty bad (although probably not raining-enough-to-cause-a-delay bad).

Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Berrios is taking Gibson's turn Wednesday, and there is an off day Thursday. Is there a problem with Gibson? I saw Berardino referenced back problems as well as his poor performance.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Wed is Gibson's next scheduled start, amiright? Interesting.
alarp33 Provisional Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Wed is Gibson's next scheduled start, amiright? Interesting. I would imagine its just pushing everyone back a day, and Milone gets bumped from rotation... don't think there's anything to read into it being Gibson's turn
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 So Berrios is added to the 40 man roster so I do think that means the Twins will go with a two man bench for the next week unless they can call Polanco back when/if Santana/Duffey goes to the DL?
d-mac Verified Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 This is definitely unexpected. But good. It'd be nice to see Meyer back in the rotation either here or in Rochester and Chargois up in the ML pen.
SF Twins Fan Verified Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Once all 6 starters are healthy it'll be interesting to see what happens. Is there a trade coming or will someone be moved to the bullpen and if so who from the bullpen gets moved.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 He's the guy I've been waiting for to make his debut.. Welcome to the big leagues Berrios! I think the first game there will be a lot of nerves, but we'll see a lot of electric stuff on Wednesday. I have high hopes that within the next year or 2, he becomes the ace of the rotation. I guess it buys an extra day for Ervin too, so maybe Duffey finally gets sent out. alarp33 1
alarp33 Provisional Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) So Berrios is added to the 40 man roster so I do think that means the Twins will go with a two man bench for the next week unless they can call Polanco back when/if Santana/Duffey goes to the DL? Someone (Seth I think) mentioned if Santana/ Duffey goes to a DL, that doesn't mean Kepler/Buxton/Polanco are eligible to skip the 10 day window, only a pitcher would be, since its a pitcher going on the DL. So unless they plan on making another 40 man move, yeah a 2 man bench it is, which is just pure madness. EDIT: Lavelle is saying Polanco is on his way back up, so maybe Seth was mistaken when he said it would have to be Pitcher for Pitcher Edited April 26, 2016 by alarp33 KidBro, gunnarthor and Hosken Bombo Disco 3

If the MLB team DL's a player, a recently demoted player can take his place, regardless of the position of either player. KidBro, d-mac, Jham and 2 others 5

Yup I just edited my post - I read that on here earlier today but it was obviously incorrect, as it appears Polanco was called up
Tibs Verified Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Awesome! It will be interesting to see what happens with the rest of the roster now. I'm still curious what the plan with Alex Meyer is. You would think with the way he was pitching as a starter that they would want him to keep starting. shs_59 Provisional Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Well, Damn Night shift! I will be "calling in sick" Wednesday night to catch it on TV ( We're lucky our FSNorth Cameramen are so awesome) Anyways, curios move though, I pictured Berrios up a week or 3 into May or even early June, but April? I thought Alexander Meyer would get the start on Wednesday....what gives? I think this is a TOTAL PR move, they want ticket sales badly.......WE ALL saw how few people were at the Twins - Indians game monday night...... it looked like 9,000 fans in the stands in total.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 So, Polanco up, Ervin to the DL -- that still means another guy needs to be dropped from the 25-man to add Berrios. I guess not until after the game tonight. Pretty much can only be O'Rourke or Tonkin, right?
