ashbury Verified Member Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Rojas was close to the speculated 50-pitch limit, so I guess if Shelton thinks he has himself a closer, now was the time to use him. Kind of a rocky outing, but maybe it's a learning curve, and not some kind of The Andrew Morris Experience that will go on and on and on through the season. It was a clean 8th inning so I would have been inclined to let Rojas try for the 4-inning save. Twins_Fan_in_NJ 1

h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Horrible decision to pull Rojas. Know your pen. Rogers is getting blasted all year. Too late now. The hole is being dug.
Western SD Fan Verified Member Posted May 23 Posted May 23 I can understand the logic since IKF is a RH hitter and not a switch hitter, but it was clear Morris couldn't find the strike zone.
ashbury Verified Member Posted May 23 Posted May 23 WINNAR! We were *this* close to it all coming down to Mickey Gasper, though. RpR 1

But horrible decision? Nah. Know your players, indeed - teams commonly put limits on rookies and he'd consumed 45 pitches to get through his 3 innings of work - plus the first two batters coming up in the 9th were righties I believe so maybe that was the correct time to congratulate your lefty arm and play the percentages. If a member of the bullpen can't be trusted to get 3 outs while holding a 3 run lead, they don't belong. Bad things will still happen from time to time, but that's when you go get him and put Taylor in. Horrible? I don't usually believe in absolutes like that. Western SD Fan, LA Vikes Fan and Heiny 3

I think it’s been a big improvement with fewer quality ingredients I think Shelton is doing a terrific job. He’s giving young guys a shot in tough situations, not afraid to bench vets that aren’t performing, and it looks like he’s really put together a tight, unified team. There’s no chance Rocco would’ve moved Lee to third base where he belongs and set up a chance for Culpepper to come up and play short later in the year. Look, this is not a contending team, but if Shelton can get this team to around .500, while giving the young guys a chance to play to see what we have and set ourselves up for the future, that’s a good job of managing. Also, good to see the front office be willing to pull the plug on struggling guys like Wallner and Lewis. Even better, they cut Topa and Garcia so that Rojas, Morris, and Adams can all stay in the bigs and learn their craft. Don’t think that would’ve happened with Falvey still in charge. Good to see. tony&rodney, Western SD Fan, Heiny and 3 others 4 2
