Per MLB game is postponed. Yesterdays game resumes tomorrow 12;1O pm

48* and raining is the forecast for tomorrow at 12:10pm. Guessing they're going to try to fit in at least through inning 5 and call it.

Would be better to have finished at least one of the three games than to try and cram all three in.. or have us play one as the home team at Progressive.

What about tonight's scheduled game?

*just saw that both the 1st and 2nd games postponed; 1st game to resume at 12:10 tomorrow, followed by game 3. I guess game 2 (originally tonight's game) will need to be rescheduled....

Hopefully the rain subsides by tomorrow morning. Which is good for me, since I’m going. I expect it will be chilly.

Oooh, looks like I’ll get some extra baseball.

I'm reading that tonight's game is rescheduled for September's series, and they'll try to finish Monday's game before the regularly scheduled game tomorrow

From Cleveland.com:

Tuesday’s game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader at Target Field beginning at 2:10 p.m. ET on Sept. 20.

A vast majority of the population was tired of watching indoor baseball in July when it was a beautiful day outside. In the end, they made the right choice constructing a gorgeous outdoor park in the spot they did. North Loop is the hottest neighborhood in the city.

The area around the old Metrodome, now US Bank Stadium, is still lifeless. There’s barely any restaurants/retail within walking distance of the stadium.

Totally agree. I love Target Field and the North Loop. I was merely trying to lay out the challenges faced with any consideration of a viable dome stadium, cost and space. I do think it is possible to build a stadium that has a roof which can be fully hidden, although it would likely more than double the cost. Yes, I'm a fan of outdoor baseball.

Interesting that they announced postponement. I actually came on here (as an extremely amateur meteorologist) to say that I thought the radar was looking better and I wouldn't be surprised if they managed to get a game in tonight. I expect very little rain after 6pm.

Could be that they feel like the field can't take it, but don't we always hear about the awesome drainage of Target Field?

Virtually the entire AL Central is a disaster for early season weather. Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago and Minnesota all have open air stadiums with lots of icy weather and rain. Kansas City is the only nice venue early in the season, but it can be miserable in summer time with super hot weather coupled with high humidity.

Target Field is no worse than the aforementioned sites (or the Cubs), and it's only marginally worse than what Phillies, Yankees, Mets or Rockies fans endure.

Great weather = San Diego. Doesn't rain often, doesn't get too hot, doesn't get too cold, always open skies.
Good weather = No times of the year where it's likely going to be bitter cold or excruciatingly hot/humid, unlikely to get rained/snowed out or has a retractable roof.
Fair weather = Might be chilly, but doesn't come icy with precipitation often or with brutal heat/humidity.
Poor weather = A significant portion of the season where it will likely be miserable to go to a game. Whether it's below 50* with rain or 95* with intense humidity.
Dome =

Great weather:
Padres

Good weather:
Nationals
Orioles
Reds
Pirates
Angels
Dodgers
Brewers
Mariners
Blue Jays
Astros

Fair weather
Yankees
Mets
Red Sox
Phillies
Rockies
Diamondbacks
Rangers
Giants

Poor weather:
Twins
Tigers
Cubs
Guardians
Athletics
White Sox
Braves
Royals
Cardinals

Domes:
Marlins
Rays

It would have been a travesty to put a roof on Target Field.

If they had built a stadium with a roof on it, we would already be hearing about how that makes the team uncompetitive, and we need a new stadium without a roof so they can draw fans.

With World Series games sometimes being played into November.

If and when the Twins get there...start prepping the Bank!

Never happen.    Target Field is the only option

Marlins, Brewers, Rangers, Braves, Astros, Mariners, Jays, Diamondbacks but NOT the Rays this season.

It also never was going to happen.  The bill to fund the stadium barely passed without the roof.  There was no way it would've passed with $200MM+ added to the price tag.

The choice wasn't roof or no roof.  The choice was no roof or no Twins.

Also, every stadium with a retractable roof looks dumb.  They still haven't really figured that out.

A Graphene roof will be the answer in the relatively near future.  200 times the strength of steal, and its weight covering the stadium would only be a few pounds. Very expensive to do now, but in a few years it won’t be.  The next stadium built in this country needing or wanting a roof will likely have a roof infused with at least a small amount of Graphene.

I think it'll be a miracle if they get anything in today. I'm 20 miles south of the cities and I've got 2.5" in my rain gauge right now at noon. The weather terrorists are saying the rain won't stop until sometime this evening. They'll play the game tomorrow, but the first two will have to be rescheduled.

terrorists??? WTH?

With the Twins being a regional team and drawing loyal fans  from the Dakotas and Wisconsin and other places far from downtown Minneapolis, there was good reason for Minnesota to have built a domed stadium with a retractable roof. I was guaranteed there would be games played when the Twins played at the Metro Dome and I flew from North Carolina to see the games. In addition, while the fans can bundle up during cold spring and September/October games,  playing in really cold weather is not conducive to optimum performances by players, especially pitchers. Playing in warm  sunshine is really nice, but getting unusable rain checks, after having traveled great distances by driving or flying,  and after having booked hotel rooms, is so uncertain that I am reluctant to take that chance. Many of you reading this may think, "Well my taxes helped pay for beautiful Target Field and I don't want the added expense of a retractable roof, and I don't think it is an inconvenience for me and my family" ...you have a valid point. But I'm just saying that fans who must travel great distances to Twins games, are more likely to spend a thousand, or more, dollars for travel, hotels food and tickets, if they know the games will be played.

COULD NOT AGREE MORE!!!!!! However, my understanding is that that MetroDome RATS ruled and it became a place where no human dared tread.

The Twins acting meteorologist should be fired.

Calling these games two hours ago and now having the rain be about 30 minutes from being done for the night is embarrassing.

It was relatively clear to see on the radar loop.

I understand that Target Field has the best available drainage and rainwater recapture systems, but there still has to be a concern about playability and players health with all of the water that has been dumped in the TC over the last few days....

That's definitely a factor and one I can't analyze. But purely from a "is it raining" perspective, they really screwed this one up.

I thought it might be somewhat clear enough later to at least bang out the rest of Game 1 (as a 5 inning game), even if they did it without fans in the stands just to help out fitting the games into the season. They'd need what, an hour at most?

Trying to get in only five innings isn't good for the integrity of the game. It wouldn't be fair to the losing team and I don't think it should be the goal, just so they get a game in. The weather app I am looking at says that there might be some light rain tomorrow afternoon, but I'm guessing they will get the suspended game and the regularly scheduled game in.

No game can be, or should be, expected to go only 5 innings.

They'll start the suspended game with plans to go 9.

I do like that tonight's game will be part of a double-header in September instead of burning the mutual day off the following Monday.  I surmise that is the last day off for both teams as it is for the Twins for the season and would be nice to not burn out the bullpen before the end of the season.

I'm likely crazy, but I would have liked to see Paddack finish the suspended game on Wednesday with the hope that he would be the only pitcher used and have a full bullpen for the scheduled Wednesday game.  I'm not sure it would have hurt us to have both Paddack and Lopez go the same day as we have another day off on Thursday.

EDIT:  I now see that Ryan is supposed to be next in the rotation so that my idea could be that possibility as I do not see Ryan as listed as announced starters until his next rotation turn on Monday in TB.

Yeah, I like to see two regular starters for the games on Wednesday.  That would leave Pablo, Ober and Zebby for the Royals series. It is my understanding that the Twins can add a player for the regularly scheduled game on Wednesday.

Dan Hayes reporting that Ryan will "relieve" in the suspended game and that Paddack will pitch in the regularly scheduled game (weather permitting).

I wonder when the last six inning save occurred.

I know you’re being facetious, but if Ryan goes six, he’ll get the win (or loss).

Sorry, this is one rare time where I think you're WAY off base.

Baseball should be played outside. Teams and baseball fans have been doing just fine for 150 years.

Target Field is a gem. A roof would be a crime against humanity. People make the trip all the time.

And for everyone else...we're talking about a couple days of potential rain. Geez. Relax. I guarantee this isn't the first time it's rained in Minneapolis, nor will it be the last.  MLB and the Twins will survive.

Good, valid points Chief. Thanks.
