when I tried to look up Winokur it looks like he has been identified as OF in all of his other transactions listings.

61 games at SS, 10 at 3B, 20 in CF, and 2 in RF in 2024. OF isn't bogus but they are giving him a shot at SS.

Is Boston over the intestinal flu, or whatever it was, that had swept through the roster a week or so ago?

I think Miranda should be the DH against RH pitchers.

That tells me that Julien doesn't make the team then. And I'm ok with that if that's the case.

I also think there is a real chance that Brooks Lee gets the 2B nod and keeps Castro as utility. But for one game only, for opening day, this makes a ton of sense too.

1) If Ty France is going to start 110-130 games at first, Miranda should get the most PAs as the DH, particularly given his reverse splits.

2) Lee lost prospect luster and Julien pretty much undid all his good work in 2023 (IMHO). Sending either or both to St. Paul to start the season is proper and justified. Lee has been better than Eddie in the spring so far and has played three positions in the IF and is a switch hitter--he's the more versatile tool, but he and Castro would be neck and neck as primary options for second base.

3) As a 29-year-old rookie with less than 25 PAs in the majors, I don't think it would be wasteful or a problem to have Gasper as the last guy. He could pinch hit, maybe DH or play first occasionally, and grab his gear if there's a blowout and catch a couple of innings.

As the position player group sorts out, it looks like the Twins could have three very versatile guys (Castro, Lee, Gasper) to fill in at 7.5 positions. Injuries and poor performance will happen and the last three guys cut (out of Gasper, Lee, Keirsey, Julien, and Martin) are all going to get a chance. I'm actually pretty optimistic as of today.

Rob Refsnyder, one of the fielders the Twins used during the year, Center Field was cursed; they probably should have hung on to him, he is do pretty well now.

With that lineup for a home game, I'm surprised it's not a split-squad day. I assume there's some logic to taking more of the regular starters to an "away" game yesterday (do the Red Sox train close to the Twins, a shorter bus ride?) and then giving them a day off today.

Florida ballparks are pretty tough for wind and sun, but Miranda didn't have a good look on the popup.

I really want to see Winokur a bit more. He double-clutched his first chance, but Springer wasn''t running hard out of the box. He made a smooth play with a perfect throw on his second chance.

Not necessarily an excuse, but you're correct.  Played old-man baseball in the Roy Hobbs World Series at the Florida spring training fields, and pop-ups were nearly impossible.  I don't know why.  Sunglasses didn't seem to help either.  Also, the winds are so hard to read and seem to shift constantly compared to the Midwest.

BAL A squad & Sugano has a 0.00 ERA so far, against MN C squad, only Vazquez & Lee are 2nd string the rest are 3, 4 or higher. BAL leading 2-0 isn't bad.

Looks like a split—Baltimore up 10-0, while the Twins lead the Rays 13-2, both games in the bottom of the 8th.

If the scores hold, we're up 13-12 in total. I'm calling that 2 Ws.

The Orioles celebrated Festavus. Vasquez and Miranda with three hits.

Final against Rays was 13-6; Fundy and Whorff give up four in the ninth.

Yes.

Both are in Fort Myers.

6 mile ride per internet?

Yea not a great look so far.  Less than impressed with Cartaya.  G Gonzalez had no idea on that double - he is really slow.

Was just going to say the kids aren't too comfortable on defense today.

That double needs to be caught.
