Credit to him for not sticking around just to keep cashing the nice MLB paycheck.

I liked him and never thought he was 'that bad' of an outfielder. Certainly not Delmon Young bad. But I wish nothing but the best for him in the future.

Best wishes to Kiriloff in his next endeavor.  This has to be tough.

He's certainly had some injury issues and it's absolutely his decision, but a surprising one for injuries that would not normally be considered career-ending at age 26, individually or even cumulatively.

The modest, somewhat muted 'Bummer but whaddaygonnado?' fan reaction on social media, by contrast, seems pretty unsurprising in light of the Twins organization's recent trajectory and its decade-long run as the place top prospects' hopes go to die.

I know this is impossible, but maybe fans are being rational?

Surprised.

Either he is hurting more than we know or he does not have much love for the game.

Even AAA player make very good money.

Standard AAA contracts are $35,800 per year. That’s starting pay at the Target down the street from me.

Rather be working at AAA.  More opportunity for advancement and reward.

Absolutely correct, read the article. 35,800 per year. 1200 per week during the season, 250 per week off season, they do not get paid for two months, December and January.

they get Per Diem when they travel, but they’re traveling.

Once you've been to the show, AAA is not where you want to try to honeymoon out a career.

Add  to Minor League yearly pay -  lump sums for signing plus once they get called up they get Big League minimum for a certain amount of time.

For one who did it, beats busting your butt 10-14 hours a day landscaping  some times seven days a week to catch up to  bad weather delays.

One year of 700,000 plus would have covered several decades landscaping work.
