Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 Lexi Schweinert said on the radio today that Correa, Kepler, Buxton and Margot were all on the field this morning doing some running. Then I wondered if she meant Target Field, not Kauffman Stadium? Then I thought she probably meant jogging, not sprinting, because sprinting would be some legitimate news. (Pics or it didn't happen.) Foot, knee, hip and groin injuries do not prevent you from doing morning warmups, nor do they prevent you from flying charter. Atteberry or Perkins also spilled at one point that the team expected Buxton to be on the KC trip, but he wasn't. I don't know why they singled out Buxton. Did Rocco gave his team an ass chewing after the game today. If he did, I think he needed to wait until the team got back to the cities to include those four named above, who deserve it at least as much. That's my opinion on it. mrtwinsfan, Schmoeman5 and Blyleven2011 3
Twins_Fan_in_NJ Verified Member Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 Do injured players go on road trips? They have shown Correa a bunch times in the dugout at Target Field. I'd be surprised though if he accompanied the team when they head out on the road - especially if he is doing some rehab stuff. Patzky, USAFChief, Jocko87 and 2 others 5
Twins_Fan_in_NJ Verified Member Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 When this team has struggled, a lot of Rocco's comments to the media started with the word 'THEY' - it's a bad look. If you want to hold your team accountable, do it behind closed doors. I think back to that series after Baltimore - they need to start hitting the ball forward, they need to stop swinging stuff outside of the zone - how about, we all need to start doing a better job so that we start scoring some runs. I may disagree that they need that but we’ve been told, over and over, that’s part of the job of the veterans. True, guys stay home to rehab all the time, but nothing is preventing them from requesting they go on a trip and take their rehab with them. Yes Correa may need to stay back and has an excellent reason to do so which may help the team later this season. Also I did hear the radio thing correctly. NYCTK 1
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 No, I don't think he has lost the clubhouse. Every team goes through a stretch like this during a season and they usually bounce back and return to their normal talent level. And Baldelli, even given his own mistakes, should rip into the team a little over this series. They scored four runs in three games. Squirrel, SwainZag and Jocko87 3
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 If the veterans like Correa have been become disgruntled, I doubt it's because of Baldelli, it's more likely because of ownership and what was viewed as broken promises to improve the team. Not that that's what's happening. TheLeviathan, Squirrel and Jocko87 3

It's truly a shame that inside or outside of he clubhouse: Calling out Rocco for having no clothes is strongly discouraged. It's how you can shave wins from your teams total every year while doing so nearly completely under the radar. My post yesterday disappeared. TopTwinsFan Verified Member Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 Thanks. Makrs me feel better that at some point there was a manager worse than Rocco. Feel like I am the one Twins fan on here who both want to win a Championship and know that Rocco is a horrendous manager. I couldn't even watch the Twins yesterday. After Rocco crafted that loss Saturday night I knew how hard it would be for the guys to go play knowing that Rocco is always searching for a way to hurt the team. Guess this is when the Twins just want you as a fan to go away. A well run organization wants rabid, involved fans. The Twins just want someone to support them financially. I highly doubt anyone there really cares that Rocco gives us a 0% chance at playoffs success. Not easy being a Twins fan who actually cares about winning. Sadly I think most Twins fans have figured out that out. In other words, they'll watch when the playoffs start and yawn when they're eliminated. No reason for emotional investment when the team doesn't care about you.

TwinsCD Verified Member Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 I have made my Rocco opinion very often in game threads so I'll take this from the perspective that the manager is liked by the vast majority of the fanbase: This postgame blowup has probably been needed long before Sunday. I'd say that it should have happened at least by the 15-0 demolition to Toronto. Maybe even before that after getting swept in a largely listless effort vs the Braves. If the manager is as well-respected by the players as it has routinely been reported, these guys should respond tonight with one of their better efforts in over a month. If they come out and get dominated by Detmers and look just as bad, then you can maybe make the case that they've packed it in a bit. If we gave some of these vets truth serum, it would be interesting to hear what they'd say about the constant lineup juggling as well as the position switching. Bottom line is that their best player has been out for 2 months and arguably, their second-best offensive player has been out 3 weeks and neither have any sort of light at the end of their injury tunnel. I don't know too many contending teams that would be able to weather this storm as it is. Certainly if they were on the outside looking in at the moment, I'd have zero confidence that they could overtake for a spot. The only glimmer of hope I see of winning the division is because they still have games left vs Cleveland. But for those to mean anything, they've gotta treat the Angels this week like the Royals treated them this weekend. If they come out and drop 2 out of 3 and look disinterested doing so, then I think you could say that the manager has lost them. We saw what happened in Seattle when they arrived at that conclusion. While also considering the partial picture, I would put myself in the opposite camp. All the evidence I see would suggest that he would be a terrific boss to work for. What I see right now is a path correction and restatement of expectations. Pretty standard stuff and a leader isn’t judged in the good times. I think there is probably some really concerning stuff with Kepler and Lewis that is polluting the waters, but that is pure conjuncture on my part. Lewis is the current figurehead and has to do some significant learning about what that means. Also, one does not retain a job like this for several years if he never had the clubhouse. Please be reasonable. Schmoeman5 and TopTwinsFan 2

Road trip Verified Member Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 Lost the clubhouse? Possibly... I have no idea really. Things are not good at the moment. Massive understatement. Of course, with tonight's lineup not yet posted, it is likely that it will have half a dozen players in it who spent large portions of the year with the Saints (Festa for certain, add in Julien, Lee, Wallner, Keirsey, Martin, maybe even Camargo). That's never a recipe for success in September. For all the good or ill that Rocco may do, he can't get in the batter's box with the players. Whether they love him or hate him, they have to perform in the microsecond after the pitch leaves the hand. He can't help them at that point. The greatest leader in the world can't help them in that moment. They have to do it themselves. It's a game of focus and skill, not a game of physically and mentally dominating your opponent like football. I'm not a Rocco fan. His decision to remove Ober on Saturday was one of the worst baseball decisions I have seen, ever. He's made a few other head-scratchers. But in the end, the players have to play. The manager matters, but only so much in baseball. TopTwinsFan 1

mrcharlie Verified Member Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 We can't know for sure if Rocco lost the clubhouse. Clearly he has lost the fan base as representative here. I have wondered for some seasons now how committed he is to winning the battles...every at bat, every umpire decision, every fielding play. He looks very passive to me in situations that call for backing up your players. Basically, he does not inspire confidence or an aggressive approach to the game. TopTwinsFan 1
