Does it make you feel better to know that realistically they probably end up sliding down to 3B and 2B?

A little bit. I thinks probably because they were back to back and I'm a big believer in finding pitching first.

Yeah, Amick makes a lot of sense for the Twins, and is probably a "best player available" pick at this point in the draft.

Kind of would have liked to see a prep pitcher like Oakie or Whitney or maybe a toolsy HS hitter like Burkholder.  Hopefully they can still get a high upside pick later.

I am sure there are more college SS/3B left to draft......

Culpepper isn't my favorite, but I can live with him. But two shortstops? Not sure about that one

They aren't drafting players, they are collecting assets.  The payback will be someone with a different name and probably position.

That was a good draft.  First two players with plus hit tools and the DeBarge with very good plate discipline to boot just lacking power, but we'll see if the Twins can't help him find more power.  There weren't many plus hitters in this class so getting those types of hitters it was going to have to be early or not at all.  They also got a ton of positional flexibility with both players as well.  I maybe would have liked Waldschmidt better than Culpepper, but I guess they felt differently. Still those are two very good bats in a class with about 40 good ones tops.

I am not a huge fan of the Amick pick.  He chases a lot and K's a lot and even misses in zone a lot.  I hope the Twins have a plan to fix a lot of stuff in his swing and with plate discipline or that was a wasted pick.  He can take some walks so all is not lost, but I anticipate him being a slow mover.  Maybe he will surprise me but there is a reason the other 29 teams passed on him and sometimes twice.  Hopefully he will be better than the numbers indicate.

The Hill pick was the cherry on top.  A big tall lanky lefty arm with a ton of projection left and the ability to throw strikes.  That was a really good get at 69.

The bats look pretty dried up unless you are going power over hit so I suspect the Twins go mainly arms on day two.

Im surprised were still sitting at only two of them having signed. Is this accurate?

Probably true as of your posting?

Here in the distant future, the draft tracker indicates picks 1,16,&20 are the only pending picks. What i am wondering (and twonlazy to step through every pick to determine) is how much under or over slot we are at this point. Also i mildly wish we also noted non drafted signings there, as i saw at least one mentioned since the draft....

This is supposedly a terrible draft. Most teams, from what I read, aren't excited about anyone after the first round. If they get something out of this draft, we should be impressed.

1 year later,  in a draft that supposedly looked weak the Twins hit this draft out of the park.

1. Culpepper looks like a legit shortstop,  and the bat is outperforming expectations.  Looks like a legit prospect.

2. Debarge -  firecracker,  decent bat, great speed, good defense

3. Amick -  the bat appears to be real,  and the defense is better than anticipated

4.  D. Hill -  Looks like a legit SP prospect.  1.8 ERA in A ball as a 19 year old and 14+ K/9.  Absolutely ridiculous.

5.   Diaw - may be the Catcher prospect we have been clamoring for.

Honeycutt going 1 pick later will be an interesting comparison as well.

Well a year plus later,  of Caminiti, Honeycutt and Culpepper - Culpepper was the clear win of the 3.  Looks like Twins did something right LOL.
