And that's why he's a former Twin (among other things). That throw to third was pure bush league. Rooker will probably be playing in the Bloomington Fireman's Softball Tournament in less than a couple years.

IIRC, a rookie gets a full year of service time if he finishes in the top three in the ROY voting. That would be a real bonus for Miranda since he hasn't been up all year.

Rik19753 Verified Member Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 I guess we can't have nice things around here. Just when you thoughts things were turning for the better we lose what may be our best pitcher... And to rub salt in the wound we get to see Pagan in the 3rd inning.
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 The decision to not use Cole Sands for two last night, or alternatively, not pitch him at all, looms potentially large.
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 How Twins front office would this be to make a big trade and the guy needs Tommy John a few weeks later?

All we know is his velocity was down.

ChineseGandalf Verified Member Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 Well this is the most Twins thing to happen since... Chris Paddack. Mahle hurt already? Yikes... hope it isn't serious. Also, Pagan replacing him seems designed to drive us all crazy.
TwinsCD Verified Member Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 If this was The Weakest Link, I'd be screaming 'BANK' after Pagan got those 2 outs to end the inning. That may be all he's good for.

RickOShea Verified Member Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 I question Witt Jr's baseball IQ, with him throwing that ball. but I guess when you're not in contention, you just let it fly.

RickOShea Verified Member Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 I hope the Twins don't go into their turtle shell and the offense shuts down. too much baseball left, and too little a bullpen, not to keep the pressure on.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 Sigh. Crap. I hope he's ok Can't wait for people to somehow blame people for this if he's hurt.

Injuries are way up among pitchers, but it's likely due to the fact that pitchers are throwing (on average) quite a bit harder than they used to. Almost hard to believe, but as recently as the 1980s the AVG fastball velocity was somewhere between 84 & 87MPH. 200 innings with a 92-96 mph fastball is a LOT more stress on the arm & elbow than 200 innings sitting 84-87mph. Huge amounts of torque in the delivery nowadays, more than ever.

mrtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 Need to think back to before radar guns, Bert used to say alot of times it would take time to pitch at max velocity, and the Manager had to trust his pitchers, really wonder what was said by Mahle to Rocco ? Hope alls well ,

Sure the blame game is easy. But maybe another culprit. Whooping cough, scarlet fever, or possibly legionnaire's disease. Or a mean case of hammer toe.
