Danchat Verified Member Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 Remember the first 2 months of nearly perfect Joe Smith pitching? Ah, good times... seems like the reverse of what happened to him last year. Astros DFA'd him after putting up a 7+ ERA, then he figured it out in the second half with the Mariners.

Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 Absolutely embarrassing. Feel bad for smith but this is gross

Unless the FO makes some moves to fix a few things, we're in big trouble. We've got one foot out the door, and the other on the banana peel. FO wouldn’t make any trade! FO have no clue how to run the team. Scouting department is not that great. Mediocre drafts. Pitching and bullpen pitching are terrible. Twins bats are not that good.
KirbyDome89 Verified Member Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 Maybe that was Rocco's attempt at a MN passive aggressive message to the FO about bullpen help....

RickOShea Verified Member Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 One of the best lines in a sports comedy,. When they bring Vaughn in, in the movie Major League, and Rube says "Rick Vaughn?" I feel that same way on many occasions with the Twins.
Danchat Verified Member Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 Since May 27th, hitters are hitting .426 against Smith with 6 HRs. ERA of 10.61 in that stretch!

But then 4 innings becomes three and your bullpen is still being overused
notoriousgod71 Verified Member Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 Twins Joe Smith signing is worse than the wolves Joe Smith signing.

Archer can certainly be effective for 3-4 innings, but if you're managing his exposure, and consistently asking 6+ IP from a bullpen that largely consists of guys who need to limited, in addition to a rotation that's also being minimized in terms of exposure, you can see how the snowball starts to form. It’s 93 here, trust me there are no snowballs forming! ☃️☃️

RickOShea Verified Member Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 Half of the Twins players don't know their left from their right. Watch them stand for 'God bless America'. they haven't a clue. And yet, we expect them to throw strikes and swing a decent bat.

This has been said a lot. Some disagreed because “that’s how it is in today’s game”, but you can’t treat your bullpen like a rented mule. Especially if they aren’t good to begin with. You have to, at some point, get meaningful innings from your starts. Unfortunately our starters are bad too

The conundrum appears to be that with the expanded playoffs and with so many teams thinking they have a chance to sneak in, that there may not be many viable options available. Plus, many of those who could be available are probably going to require a king's ransom to pry loose. Not a good scenario to be facing for teams like us. Could be a da**ed if you do and da**ed if you don't type of situation. A no-win for sure.

There have been dozens of patriotic songs written over the years and this is just one of those. It's nothing special. It's just a song. So there's no required or expected protocol when it's played or performed.
