Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Heck of an outing so far for Smeltzer, got to wonder if Archer goes to the bullpen so he can stay. Speaking of 'staying', I'd love to see him go out for the 7th inning...
jimbo92107 Verified Member Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Devin Smeltzer is a genuine MLB pitcher. No big fastball, but otherwise all the skills he needs to survive. Helps to have some great defense behind him, and of course it helps when his team scores a few runs. Glad to see he's starting to strike out some guys. He's not just a pitch to contact guy at all. He can gather in the K's.

operation mindcrime Verified Member Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 MLB & MLBPA have agreed to extend the 14 pitcher limit through June 19th!

stringer bell Verified Member Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 A bit off-topic. I think Dallas Keuchel is cooked.

Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Thanks ump, that was strike 3, and now the inning continues. Ugh.

Richie the Rally Goat Community Moderator Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 80 pitches, does Smeltzer come back for the 8th?
Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 I never know whether Smeltzer is legit or smoke and mirrors that will dissipate after a few more outings.

Thankfully, only 6 extra pitches because of it, and no damage. It is the close call misses I hate the most. The obvious ones just make the umpire look foolish, but it is the close ones that the pitcher or hitter deserve the most - the great take or the perfectly located pitch.

Shaitan Verified Member Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Is he at all stretched out. Like, is there even a 25% chance we see a 9 inning complete game shutout?

mrtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Its my fault ive had Buxton starting on my Fantasy team, the last 3 weeks

I think the modern game suffers from too many pitchers. But if you're the GM and want to handicap your bench that's your choice. Feel the same about the shift.

Even a mediocre but fresh reliever is better than a good but tired starter
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Just dreadful offense. And somehow the opponent keeps being worse

I'm not entirely sure of the reasoning behind the extension, but the more I think about it the less I like it
