Game Thread "Get Away" Twins vs Rangers 12:10pm cdt 5/6/2021 ad

I really hope Gordon gets the start next game keeping Polanco on the bench for a second game in a row. I'd like there to be little ambiguity from the Twins with the idea that Gordon is more than welcome to take his job.

Then do the same with Larnach and Kepler.

See if the incumbents have any fight left in them.

I definitely agree about Gordon because Polanco has been ****ing awful for so long now.

I'm interested in Larnach but simply don't have enough faith in his readiness to say much of anything one way or the other.

Overreacting due to a sense of urgency is how you replace potentially good players like Sano with bad players who have no business in the majors.

Going into today, Sano had just 62 PAs. That's still well into the territory where one good game makes his numbers look okay and two good games make it look like he's hitting reasonably well again.

I think everybody would agree that Kirilloff is a major league player. When Kirilloff comes back (hopefully as soon as his 10 days are up), I'd make him starting 1B. One of Arraez/Garlick/Rooker in LF.

I suspect the walk rate has more to do with pitchers throwing him junk and borderline pitches until he either strikes out or walks, both of which are preferable to putting the ball in play. Trading hits for walks isn't very valuable for a 290 lb power hitter.

It isn't the pitcher doing well to strike him out....and it isn't him doing well to walk? Seems a bit one sided .....

Plus, Kepler only has 74 PAs coming into the game. Similar to Sano's situation.

I wouldn't mind pushing Kepler a little to see how he reacts. And with how poorly this team is producing, giving a guy like Larnach a shot isn't entirely crazy. Probably a bit premature though.

I see no reason to start Garlick over Sano and Rooker has no business being anywhere in Minneapolis.

Don't let a kneejerk reaction to convince yourself that anything must be better than what they're doing right now. It can, and could, get worse.

I'm interested in seeing Kirilloff get time at first but he and Sano are opposite-handed. And while it's likely that Kirilloff will be bad against LHP, we know that Arraez is bad against LHP. And Arraez is also a terrible left fielder so why would he be out there against LHP again? It doesn't make sense.

Some famous pitcher said a winning pitcher gets a lot of 1 and 2 counts, where a losing pitcher gets a lot of 2 and 1 counts. Robles just walked in there and threw himself into a 3 and 0 count. Lucky the guy ground out, but you can see the stress of getting behind the batters.

It starts with strike 1, Hansel. Have a little faith in your stuff.

I don't understand this pitching change.

Yeah. Yeah.

I'm pretty forgiving of managers because they're so often making a 55/45 decision. It's not all that clearcut most of the time.

But FFS, this bullpen this season... and he's using Robles in the seventh? WHY?

I mean Robles has been solid prior to today so I can’t blame him for going Robles.

I don't think that solves much. It creates other issues. One of those isn't a MLB player. Another is borderline. the last is your utility guy that plays a subpar outfield. Fill the LF spot long term with your super utility guy and you've now got to fill that spot. All to have Sano on the bench?
