Just an absolute brutal game through 7. Big Mike was good through 4, despite the 3 run inning, nothing was really hit hard off of him until the b2b shots. The defense has been lackluster and the lineup is making a 33 year old Trevor Cahill look like the best pitcher we've seen all year. The approach has been bad at the plate. Cahill is sort of a right handed junkerballer that you would think is left handed, so maybe it makes sense that we can't hit him for anything, considering our struggles against soft tossing lefties. Tomorrow is a must win. You can't lose a series to the Pirates

Just when Cahill thought his career was in its twilight, he pitches against the Twins, and visions of Cy Young Award   acceptance speeches dance in his head.

God, Smalley already sounds desperate.

I liked the part about "playing the starting lineup 40 games in a row."

Baldelli won't play his starters FOUR games in a row, much less 40.

84 down the middle with no movement, 93 MPH fastball down the plate, 85 MPH slowball....Jeffers can't connect. He hasn't been able to make the adjustment after the book came out on him.

Time for the Twins go give Rortvedt a look.

Twins hitters should study film of the A's hitters and how they keep their at bats alive, without striking out on 4 pitches.  It's really frustrating to see these hitters missing by such wide margins.  They should have seen a few breaking balls in the minors.

This team has no luck

They just had their outfielder drop a can of corn! Here's that luck we were complaining about not having, knocking at the front door.

I don't think I've seen a performance this pathetic and unwatchable since the Vikings lost to the Falcons.

I know its Cruz, but how do you not swing at a breaking ball that is center cut, then breaks outside.  You got to at least have to swing, since its in the strike zone, to begin with. SMH.

If for no other reason than to give Jeffers every-day at bats. Only 33 PA so far this year, but they’ve been brutal. Unfortunately AAA doesn’t start playing games until May 6.

Smeltzer got more outs than Pineda, despite consistently hitting 85 MPH with his fastball. He's not going to make it in the big leagues with that kind of stuff.

Way to battle Twins.  As Baldelli would say,  " A lot of good mixed with just enough bad.  We came out without any major injuries, and most guys stayed well rested.  We'll line em up and try again, tomorrow".

Remember when several of us were concerned with the offensive showing in spring training, and several of us mocked them? 3 or fewer runs in 12 of 19 games now. And it hasn’t been small sample bad luck. BABiP in upper half of AL...13th in the AL in HR, well into upper half in K’s.

I also remember many of us ripping the bullpen early on, only to be openly mocked also. I wish we were wrong!

Trevor ****ing Cahill.

How does Trevor Cahill shut down a good high school team, much less a major league team?

Embarrassing.

FWIW, Cahill shut down the Padres 12 days ago. Matched Darvish for 5 innings before the Pittsburgh pen took over. Admittedly the Padres were without Tatis that game, but Cahill notched 8 K's that day in just 5 innings, compared to 2 in 6 IP today:

Of course, the Padres may have been embarrassed too. :)

Amazing. And even with those two outings....... he finishes today with and ERA of ....7.11
