wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 lol. Some of you just crack me up. If this were in June or July, we wouldn’t be freaking out like this. That's cause if this were June or July and we've been enduring this for that long, nobody would be paying enough attention to freak out like this!

cHawk Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 People would freak out about a 5 game home losing streak at any point of the year Slow starts are a thing. Just ask my good friend Atlanta. If we don’t right the ship in the next couple weeks then I’m worried.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Only 3 outs to score 5 runs... The trick will be not to get out.
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 I’m starting to wonder how much the loss of Rosario is impacting the lineup. Say what you want about him, but a steady .270 25-30 homer guy getting plucked out from behind Cruz is going to hurt. We’ve gone from that to Kyle Garlick, and his career .723 OPS and negative WAR, hitting in the clean-up spot.To be fair, Garlick has only played against lefties this year and has actually done a really nice job against them, as he has in his (small) MLB career. I don't view the Rosario substitution as Garlick, rather than Cave. Cave is the one getting a majority of the starts that Rosario would've gotten. I was fine with moving on from Rosario when it happened, but I was under the impression that we would be seeing AK or another option that wasn't Jake Cave. I've said it many times, but a team looking to 3-peat as division champs can not rely on a Jake Cave caliber player to start a meaningful amount of games.

So you are saying we are not yet mathematically eliminated from the play-offs - possibly getting a second wild card slot? I do kind of think of the first couple weeks of April as not being much more reliable than spring training in telling how the team is going to end up (except perhaps when they started 0 and 150), but right now a miracle turn around win would still make me feel a little better.
mnfireman Verified Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Unwatchable is unwatchable, doesn't matter if it's April, June or October. This team can't pitch, hit, or field right now. Hopefully one of the veteran players decides to hold a closed-door, players only meeting soon.

Right. It would make me feel better too. But Darius literally said this is a horrible baseball team confirmed.

If we don’t right the ship in the next couple weeks then I’m worried. It’s a little more than a slow start when guys who regressed last year are doing the same thing year. Sano polanco garver Kepler. And the continued injury problems with our current best player. Not good
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 It’s raining in Minneapolis where I was a little bit ago. Love these 7-inning doubleheader games. It should have started raining back in the middle of the 3rd inning, when this became an official game.
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 by the way, Akil Baddoo just had another RBI double.

If we don’t right the ship in the next couple weeks then I’m worried.Just because people are freaking out now, doesn't mean that they don't have some context to it. A stretch of baseball this ugly, at any point in the season, is worth ranting about. It's brutal and not enjoyable to watch. It's a long season. Plenty of time to straighten things out.
KirbyDome89 Verified Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Neither garlik or cave is a starter on a good mlb team. Kiriloff should be on this roster. He wasn't great in ST and the decision had nothing to do with service time.....
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Heads up to anyone in the Hudson-Stillwater area: There’s an Alex Verdugo home run ball coming your way in another few minutes or so.

Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 For anyone counting, the Twins have hit 2 XBHs today over 13 innings... just 2Bs from Cruz and Polanco. Remember the Bomba Squad? Those were good times.
cHawk Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Agreed, and that's why people are going nuts! Mhm.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 I like Thielbar (honest), and I love the local angles, but I don’t think he makes it to June. A lot of folks on this site who might not have brought him north out of spring training.
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 The people who have absolutely no concern over this lose me a bit. It's one thing to be optimistic about things, and I would even consider myself in that category, but to just blindly say that things are going to turn around with nothing to back that up makes me question where they're getting this confidence from.
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 On the bright side, the Twins pitchers ended Devers home run streak!
shimrod Verified Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 I feel sorry for Dick and Justin. Imagine being tasked with watching every second of this debacle AND having to come up with a positive spin on all of it. Holy cow. I'm picturing them up in the booth perusing the "Encyclopedia of Baseball Excuses (extended edition)".

He gave up the homer and the single, but he's struck out like 55% of hitters on 25ish ABs. He isn't the issue.
LVTwinsfan Verified Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 I appreciate the optimism, but that's not a description of a team that'll win 100 games or do well in the playoffs.optimism, I’m describing a team that if they made the playoffs they will probably get swept again, nothing here to get excited about
MMMordabito Verified Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 I'm just glad all these consecutive day games are almost over. I'm ready for evening beers and baseball.
mrtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Unwatchable, so it's a good thing my provider won't let me watch....Hey can ya keep a secret ? why am i getting Foxsportsgo app and no blackout, ? i no longer have Cable and didnt think this ballynorth app would let me watch ?? anyone else ?
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 don't worry, justin just said all the day games mean less on field BP which is hurting the offense. doesn't really explain the opponents knocking the ball aroundCan someone ask Justin when MLB made it illegal to take BP before day games?
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 optimism, I’m describing a team that if they made the playoffs they will probably get swept again, nothing here to get excited aboutThat was part of my 2019 comparison. That team crapped the bed in the playoffs. You were being optimistic that the team would straighten things out though. This team, as it's currently producing, is nothing close to that comparison. I wasn't getting excited about anything.

There’s a good lineup in there somewhere. Pitching is average. But there’s something else intangible missing.
