but man it’s hard to feel bad for the Yankees.

If you remove the player from the thought, I find it incredibly easy to feel good about bad things happening to the Yankees.

Sign me up for that kind of thinking. Yankee fans are miserable arrogant bleeps !

This might open the door for Deivi Garcia who might actually be better than Severino...

Maybe someday he will be better, but I find it hard to believe that in 2020 a guy who just completed a season with a 4.28 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in the minors, will outperform Severino's career 3.46 ERA, and 1.15 WHIP in the majors.  Sure Garcia strikes a lot of guys out, and was only 20 for most of last year, but he was not particularly effective at AAA.  This is a huge blow to the Yankees until such time as they can acquire a replacement--it's far more likely Garcia is trade bait as the deadline approaches than a key part of the Yankee's MLB rotation.

The Twins have set themselves up to where 1 injury doesn’t drastically hurt them... If the Yankees lose Gerrit Cole on the other hand.....

PECOTA had Severino as the 25th most valuable pitcher in the league

ZIPS had him at the 10th most valuable.

Steamer had him around 40th, mainly because they had already dialed back his innings (Steamer600 had him at 12th)

Forearm soreness always seems to be code for "Needs TJ surgery".  As others have stated, I feel bad for Luis, but am delighted it happened to the Evil Empire.

They'd be the same team that demolished the Twins in 3 straight last October...except with a (presumably) healthier outfield. :)

I do think the Severino thing leaves a mark, particularly if it's season-ending.

That would be two injuries for the Yankees.

How's about the Twins lose Berrios and Odorizzi?

Being the good Twins rube that I am...I was bummed when I saw the title for the thread because I thought the subject was Yunior Severino.

I mean, after realizing we're talking about Luis Severino and TJ...I'm still bummed. But it's a different kind of bummed.

I'm fairly confident that on February 25th, the Twins and NYY are on a collision course for the AL pennant.  I can't help but think how beneficial some of these injuries are to helping the Twins secure Home Field, which increases the Twins chances of beating the NYY from .001% to 1%.

Paxton already has question marks about his health, German has had one OK year, and Tanaka has been so off/on during his career (including last year). The Twins have more starting pitching depth than the Yankees in a (still) much weaker division. I just could still see the Twins winning the division in that scenario, and am almost certain the Yankees wouldn’t (Rays and Red Sox will still be very good).

Severino and Hicks signed extensions the same week, didn't they?

It's a strange world.

I thought at the time that the Sevy/Hicks extensions were much less risky and overall better than the Kepler/Polanco deals. Boy was I wrong.

Injury blows. Amazing how Hicks injury history is almost Buxton-esque

Now Giancarlo Stanton is out with a grade 1 calf strain past Opening Day..... the injuries continue for the Yankees.

Stanton seems to have an injury problem.
