4/90, and if the CWS are desperate they could push madbum to 4/100.

I hope we get him, but doubt it as well.

Yep. No chance. As in Zero. Well, maybe lets give them 5%.

Start perusing the FA pitchers with ERA's in the 4.5-5.5 range. There you will find your champion.

He will be 31 in August and if combine his regular and postseason numbers he has thrown 1948 innings.  Velocity has already dropped off the last couple years. Someone else can be the team to give him 3-4 years.

FWIW, my somewhat informed take is this:

Wheeler or Bumgarner or both were the Twins "A" plan. With Wheeler gone, they'll pursue Bumgarner heavily. I'll give them a 40% chance of landing him. The good news is since the Braves signed Hamels today, they're likely out on Bumgarner, and they were the heavy favorites in the betting markets to sign him.

If the Twins don't get Bumgarner, I don't hold much hope for a high impact starting pitcher to be added. Maybe Keuchel. But I assume that Ryu wants to stay west and Cole and Strasburg sound like they aren't seriously considering the Twins.

He won't play for cracker jacks and peanut shells. I doubt we get him.

How about if we throw in a lifetime supply of bellies-full-of-bunnies snakes?

Oh boy, they are in on him! It's too early to judge, but I don't care if they are in on players, I care if they actually sign them.

Just so you know. His family is from the east coast. His uncle also runs an applebees in Los Angeles. LOL

I don't care much for Keuchel. The Braves signing Hamels might be good as lots of prognosticators had him going back towards home. Hamels is only on a one year deal though, It wouldn't necessarily preclude a Bumgarner signing. With all their young arms, they might not be interested in multi year deals for starters though.

I don't know enough about Bumgarner's personality, but he's kind of escaping a rebuild situation. So if he's not really feeling hot about teaching a bunch of young starters how to wipe their noses, he may prefer joining up with Odorizzi and Berrios instead.

Maybe we can get the MN DNR involved and give him permission to lasso the bison that they started keeping at Minneopa State Park not too long ago.

How can the front office claim Bumgarner is an impact pitcher when he basically performed the same as Pineda this year?

Plus by all accounts he's a huge jerk who has a history of getting into conflicts with players of colors.  Why anyone would want to add a potential clubhouse cancer to a team with great chemistry is beyond me.

Who would you rather have for $30 million a year, Strasburg or Bumgarner and an "elite" reliver like Addison Reed?

I’m not saying that didn’t miss hearing something about him, but saying “by all accounts” and calling a person prejudiced bigot is pretty damming language. Let’s trust the FO to do the right and proper due diligence and try to refrain from passing judgement on things we don’t really have full knowledge of.

Well, one of those pitchers pitched more than 200 innings and the other didn't even pitch 150 innings. One of them has been a world series MVP and the other prejudiced his team by getting suspended for PED's and missing the postseason. Madbum's era and Whip were both better than Pineda this year. Strikeout to walk ratios are similar. Everything I've heard about madbum is that he is the ultimate competitor and thrives in big moments. You want that guy on your team. He also has made it clear that he wants to hit, so I figured he'd end up on an NL team.

Bumgarner is not a high impact guy.  He is a guy who peaked early and has lots of miles on the arm.  I would pass on him.  If he thinks he should get 100 million then screw him.

Heck, I’d let him pinch hit and the occasional DH. Madbum can swing the lumber, if that’s what he wants I’d be willing to give it to him :).

Twins should have gone all in on Bumgarner from the beginning. They tried to save face (again) by making a big offer to Wheeler to show that they are a pretender but they probably already knew that Wheeler had zero interest in coming to Minnesota. They have likely always had their eyes on Bumgarner. IMO they've lost precious negotiating time and are now up against a dozen teams trying to sign him.

You could be right, but it's my opinion the Twins have never had any intention of signing any of the top 4 guys. They can do all the talking and looking good they want, but most likely, they aren't serious about it.

To be honest, right now is the time to get Pineda locked up. You need at least him whether you sign another guy or not. Don't let him get away wasting time on a guy you aren't likely to get.

If you really are serious about Madbum. Make an offer over the top of what his agent tells you he will sign for and get to work on the others. If you aren't, then just pivot right over to Pineda and start looking hard and deep for a guy you can trade for.

I agree. If they can't sign Madbum they HAVE to sign Pineda (and i'm not a huge fan of signing cheaters to contracts, because of personality flaws) otherwise this team is in big trouble in 2020. Who is going to take over the 96 starts of Perez, Gibson and Pineda (assuming they don't resign him)? That's a massive hole in the rotation.  To make matters worse MANY of the early wins in 2019 were on the back of Perez before he dropped off. Somehow the Twins are gonna have to replace that.

I would in fact argue they need to sign BOTH. It's not that i don't have faith in the Twins pitching prospects on the way up there just isn't that much there that hasn't flopped already.

Who have they graduated recently that looks like to be mid to front of the rotation talent (besides Berrios)? Perhaps Graterol gets their, but he's got a lot of work ahead of him if he wants to be a starter in MLB. Smeltzer, Dobnak and Thorpe are #5 starters at best. Littell is a reliever. Romero had glimpses in 2018 but it seems that the Twins have given up on him as a starting pitcher based on his usage in 2019 Rochester which is unfortunate.

Who else is there? As I said many times already, I fear that this team suffers the same fate as the Texas Rangers teams of the early to mid 2000's (all hitting little to no pitching).

You're making stuff up.

Accusing them of deceit reflects on you, not them.
