They also made the point that the Twins could have a beef in that the put the tarp on a good bit before the rain started, meaning that Cleveland got three innings from their starter, but the Twins only got two from theirs. 

 

But all in all, I don't mind getting to their bullpen by the fourth.

Their beef would be directed at the umpire crew chief. Once the first pitch is thrown, it’s his call. Sure, he gets input regarding the weather, but it’s his call.

So, kinda looks like on and off rain for most of the night. They might be able to get in an hour or so if they can get on the field by 9:30 EDT. After that, gonna be awhile.

I believe the rules are they would start over.

 

They recently changed the rules a bit. If it was tied after 5, they would resume. Used to be if it was tied after 5, they would start over.

I helped my in-laws move after work tonight. I never want to move again!

September baseball is meant to be ugly and slow.

 

(I've really soured on the 40-man rosters the past 2-3 years. It's cool to see the young guys and the last hurrah for some of the lifer AAAA types, but it's just...not professional baseball at it's best. Especially when 3/4 of the league is phoning it in at this point.)

Just checked Weather Underground and they say it's going to rain all night and at least until noon tomorrow. I'm not sure why this game hasn't been postponed yet.

 

(I hate it that Polanco hit a home run that won't count). I question the rule as it stands. Why not pick up the game where it left off?

This situation reminds me of a few years back. It was a game scheduled in Minnesota with Erv (at his most Erviness??) scheduled to be on the bump. There was no rain all day, but it was on the way and forecast to start at like 8 or 8:30. There was some lively debate as to whether the game should be started, knowing the chances of getting in 5 were close to zero. I know I favored not starting. My argument was that it’s the worst case scenario to start Erv, have him throw 30-40 pitches and then have the game rained out. Because the result is still a double header the next day only now you don’t have Erv for the next 4.

 

If the Twins knew that there was a good chance that the rain was going to start within an hour of the game starting, letting Odorizzi take the mound was an enormous mistake.
