DiscGolfer Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 A 1-2-3 inning would be nice. Is that allowed?I think we only do that on one play
VATwinsFan Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Got Yelich out again. Can't complain about that.
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Gibson throws way too many noncompetitive pitches. If he could just cut down on easy takes, he'd be so much more effective.
nokomismod Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Two things can be true at once; it's true Polanco is a really nice player, the kind that teams like the Twins need in order to have sustained runs of competitiveness. It's also true that Jorge's OPS was .719 in June, .731 in July, and .704 thus far in August. That is nearly a half season of production that would place him firmly in the mid-20's for MLB SS's.One of my favorite players, but you are right about that and his defense is probably bottom third. I do still like the contract and I think he is a big reason this team got off to the crazy good start.
twins1095 Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Scary to see how much Yelich can do with a pitch at his feet.

Yes, it's true I guess. I just find in funny all this talk about platooning him or that he isn't a very good defensive SS. He made a couple plays in the field last night that saved them runs. He also just might be the best hitting SS the Twins have ever had on their roster.

Don Walcott Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Will Gibby make it through 6?You mean "5"?
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Will Gibby make it through 6? Alive? Yes. As the pitcher of record? TBD.
VATwinsFan Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 You mean "5"?I'm an optimist.
Don Walcott Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Plesac isn't a terrible announcer, content-wise. He's just a really annoying doofus.
BD57 Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Pitch count is "getting up there"? He's over 80 pitches in the 5th inning!!!!!!! With all of ONE out!!!! And he's still nibbling. His stuff's not good enough to "not be hit" when it's in the zone ... aaarrrggghhh
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Alive? Yes. As the pitcher of record? TBD. Self Quote; as Gibson is due up 2nd in the top of the 6th, he will be given the opportunity to finish this inning, but will absolutely be pinch hit for in the 6th.

He made a couple plays in the field last night that saved them runs. He also just might be the best hitting SS the Twins have ever had on their roster. He's not an above average defensive shortstop and he has been extremely average as a hitter for the last 3 months including below average for the entire season as a right-handed hitter. Individual good plays or at bats do not change that fact. People do not hate Polanco. People like Polanco and think he's a really good player on a great contact and at an age where he should continue to improve. Pointing out facts does not make people Polanco haters.
BD57 Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Rocco is trying desperately not to waste a pitcher on one hitter here.
mrtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Gibby done for the day , Good
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Interesting move by Counsell here--he only has two guys left on the bench now, Braun and his backup catcher. With the 9 spot guaranteed to come up at least twice more today, there will be some pitcher PA's for Milwaukee.

Don't like it. But I agree you pinch hit for him this inning.

Don Walcott Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Ehire must be relieved that he won't have to rely on Diaz now.
big dog Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Ehire is on some kind of roll here. Nice to see.
twins1095 Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 I wonder if it's hard to see or just not called but technically this pitcher is balking with every pitch. You can't break your hands and bring them back together. Maybe I'm just salty because I had umps calling balks on me during little league for the same thing...
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 I feel like I have never seen a team hit into more air DP's than this Twins team.
