sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted July 21, 2019 Author Posted July 21, 2019 Bad way to lose a ball game. Everyone involved from front office down has to look deep down and determine what they could have done to make this a different outcome.I coulda kept up with the game thread. Maybe even have procured some quality footwear...Where? I know not. Not been following these hypertext mark up language url links.
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 I'd point out he's an All-Star, but frankly I think it's smoke and mirrors. The guy's nothing special...... Totally agree. Nunez was an all-star, too..... that was a laugher. The Twins......... they are looking a lot like smoke and mirrors these days. That is the saddest development and continuing emerging reality.
IndyTwinsFan Verified Member Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 This team is getting increasingly difficult to watch. How unfortunate after all the goodwill built up in the first half of the season.
gocgo Verified Member Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 A double play grounder shouldn't happen off of Liam Hendricks. He's a hard-throwing strike-out type of pitcher these days. The Twins are going through a patch where they just cannot catch a break. For instance, early in the game, the batter obviously went, yet the 1 base ump called no swing. Berrios' pitch count climbed after that. And again, the Twins just couldn't seem to find the third out. A bunch of little things are going wrong and it's just enough to cost the Twins these games. We caught 1 break...Royals won 1-0 over Cleveland. Does Cleveland play a team with a winning record other than us the rest of the year? Bottom line is we will need to take care of Cleveland ourselves if we want to win the division.
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 At least the old sensitive farts will have a happy board to cheer on their wildcard hopeful twinsWildcard? If you’re lucky, at this rate
IndyTwinsFan Verified Member Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 Snatched defeat from jaws of victory tonight. Front office still not doing anything about the eyesore bullpen.Amen, brother!
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 Snatched defeat from jaws of victory tonight. Front office still not doing anything about the eyesore bullpen.I'd like to think they are working on it ... but then, they did nothing in the off season to bolster it, either.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 That ball must be out of the earth.Well, Ok. The velocity on the data of his batted ball should be available on Statcast before long. I’m sure it was hit very, very hard. Just couldn’t get it elevated. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/statcast_search
HawksNest Verified Member Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 This one hurts, bad. Finally have a chance to add a game to our lead in the division with the Cleveland loss. Cough up the lead, take it back only to see our stud reliever hand it back again, and then blow a MASSIVE opportunity in the 9th. Just awful.

Tom Froemming Twins Daily Contributor Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 The bullpen was bad, obviously, but it's worth pointing out that AL teams combined to have a losing record when scoring exactly four runs. The lineup was 0-for-5 w/RISP. So there, everything sucks, OK? Just remember, they play again tomorrow. No, that's not a threat, why would you ask? HA!
Rosterman Verified Member Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 Solo home runs. Maybe have to rethink line-up construction. Tim Anderson got a big second wind. Can they just do something on the bases? Wait, they do...running the wrong way at times. Sigh. The starters have been brilliant. Now we have a different arm every loss blowing it from the pen.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted July 21, 2019 Author Posted July 21, 2019 ... the crowd turnout was great and so was the air traffic over the stadium. What kinda planes?
Bandit34 Provisional Member Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 Tough loss to a better team. I would be surprised if the Twins win tomorrow. The A's have that feel to them of a real World Series contender. If my Twins don't make it to the World Series, hopefully the A's will.

Pace yourself!
bighat Verified Member Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 Another 0 for 6 game for RISP, hitters are only good for solo HRs. Bullpen blows two different leads. This team just doesn't look good. We certainly won't be winning any games in October playing like this. (Ironically, Schoop, the guy who's been ragged on for choking in clutch situations, did exactly what he needed to tonight - a big sac fly and a double against the A's best pitcher. But of course the team finds away to squander his efforts!) I'm starting to worry about getting to October in the first place. Nice Cleveland lost tonight, but this won't be a cake walk. Something's off with this team right now. I totally get they're coming back to earth, but they seem really much worse offensively than they were. I know they were playing out of their minds for a while there with those double-digit wins early on, but they look almost below-average on offense right now, and have for about a month. Swagger has all but completely disappeared. Too many guys missing a week here and 2 weeks there, I think has contributed. League adjusting, etc.

Woulda been clearer had i put it in quotes... Sorry.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 Maybe batting practice is in order for a spell, eh?Possibly so. Don’t know. Whatever was working on April-May isn’t working as well in June-July — however whatever that is, it might work again in August-September, correct?

More likely than not that it does. Stay tuned.

rkevin Provisional Member Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 The A's have that feel to them of a real World Series contender.I agree with you that they do. But that's right now. Back in early June. we all pretty much felt like the Twins were a real contender. The players thought that too. The team needs a mind-shift. So much about competitive sports like baseball is attitude and confidence. The A's have it right now; the Twins don't. So when talking about shifts, that is one I would like to see.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 Can't criticize this team or the pitchers here or else you get called out.Completely untrue, but carry on.

I wouldn't bet on it, myself. But hey, this last month the Twins lost a series to the White Sox and split with the last series with KC. That says more about the Twins and who the A's are playing.

League adjusting, etc.I worded my statement to also be understood as "they won't be winning game in October because they won't be there". I am still confident we will be able to beat the Indians for the division - we have tons of games left against them and the rest of the crappy AL Central. It's just... I'm expecting a quick exit in October barring a major resurgence in August/September.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 This one will sting for a bit, 2 outs in the 9th and couldn't get it done, bases loaded in the 8th and 9th, couldn't get it done. Gotta still hope there are some arms coming, it's hard to imagine Falvine watching this and being ok with it. That said, their bats were every bit as responsible for the loss as the BP. A healthy Rosario and Buxton would be a welcome addition about now.
Bandit34 Provisional Member Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 Rosario is healthy as far as I know. But it's vital that we have our best hitter on the bench for these late-inning clutch hitting situations.
