A get-away game thread intro...

 

The theme for today is getting away with things.

 

I'm tempted to end here and see if i get away with it, but i don't want

to set a bad example.

 

I will try to get away leaving lineups for someone else, because i'm

posting this wicked early, as i'm getting away, by which i mean that i

am travelling. Perhaps i can post them from the road. Certainly that's

easier than this entire intro.

 

Twins may not get away until after a night game, so it perhaps isn't a

typical such game. I suppose it still is an away game though. I must say

the Angels have been fine hosts. Angelic, even?

 

I like to think i've got a way with words, but they get away from me so

often i don't even know any more.

 

Can i get away with bad jokes or obscure references?

So now i'm tempted to go on a true story tangent, and try and tie it

back in...

I owned a pinball machine once. A friend got a Black Knight 2000 for

his girl friend long ago. When they broke up, she returned it. Then

when he moved out of town, he sold it to me for $200. I kept it in a

common space for 8 or 9 years dubiously maintained but playable, with

enough playfield elements working to make it interesting, then i gave

it to someone who would do a better job maintaining it than i ever

did, and who had an original Black Knight to keep it company.

It came to mind last night when everything suddenly started working for

the Twins, reminiscent of a point in the game play of this pinball machine

when everything gets lit. It is a dramatic moment.

 

Anyway, feel free to find BK2K music and give it a listen. It's inspiring music,

at least for an '80s pinball game, and there's a wonderful blog post online about the

effort the designers put into integrating it with game play. Starting to

hope our Managers and Coach are similarly effectual at putting the Twins

together!

 

But I suppose flippers and a pinball are a far cry from a bat and

a baseball. Nor is it very informative of this upcoming game.

 

On that note, can you come up with an even more remotely connected thing?

Wow, Indians are reeling. Jose Ramirez, once an MVP caliber guy, has an OPS under .600 this year, and has been awful going back to last year. Not keeping Brantley is looking like a huge misstep.

 

If we keep pushing out this lead, the Tribe is going to reach the point of no return. 6.5-7.5 games is already a lot. 10+ and you may as well start selling assets.
