Squirrel Community Moderator Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 Since I have too much time on my hands of late, I thought I'd get this game thread started early. Once there's a lineup, it's game thread time. Pineda vs Buchholz. The best lead-in to a game thread I think one could write, has already been written. So read Matthew Lenz' article on Pineda. I think that's the best place to start. Lineups: BLUE JAYS Eric Sogard(L) 2BFreddy Galvis(S) SSRandal Grichuk(R ) CFJustin Smoak(S) DHTeoscar Hernandez(R ) LFRowdy Tellez(L) 1BBrandon Drury(R ) 3BBilly McKinney(L) RFDanny Jansen(R ) C Clay Buchholz (R ) P TWINS Max Kepler(L) RFJorge Polanco(S) SSNelson Cruz(R ) DHEddie Rosario(L) LFC.J. Cron(R ) 1BMarwin Gonzalez(S) 3BWillians Astudillo(R ) CJonathan Schoop(R ) 2BByron Buxton(R ) CF Michael Pineda (R ) P Weather: gray, 50s, winds from the NNW. To me, while not cold, does spell 'chilly.' I have a lot of experience being outdoors these days, and I say that cloudy days with winds from the north this time of year is chilly. Now, if it were 50 and sunny ... different story. 'Nuff of the Midwestern weather speak. Enjoy the game ... go Twins! I'll actually get to watch ... while I vaccuum, dust, mop floors ... it's floor day at the Keller household.
yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 The past year has been one of the most eventful in my life. Exactly one year ago, I was mourning the loss of my cat Riley, who had been my pet for 15 years. Just a few days later, my wife and I would meet the girl who, hopefully within a couple months, will become our adopted daughter. One year ago today the Twins were in Puerto Rico. They would defeat the Indians 2-1 on a seeing eye ground ball off the bat of Ryan LaMarre to plate Eddie Rosario in the 16th inning. The win would leave the Twins with an 8-5 mark and put them in first place until a few days later. Today, former Yankee Michael Pineda (2-0, 3.00 ERA) is on the bump for the Twins against former Red Sox Clay Buchholz (0-0, 1.50 ERA) in a business man's special at Target Field. After today, the two teams literally will be heading in different directions. The Twins will head to Baltimore while the Jays travel to Oakland. So, buckle up and settle in. It's GAME TIME!
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 Hate such an early start...which first pitch was at 3, and not noon. Oh well, Go Twins Not sure why Garver hasn't started since Monday, especially with Willans being cold at the plate.

wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 I don't think it's a case of too much time on your hands as much as it is that you're just procrastinating so that you don't have to do the floors. I commend you for establishing a worthy cause for your procrastination!

I clicked on that link for a temp password about two dozen times and never heard a peep. So I created Dastardly II just to get back in. Once recognized, I sent a message to tech support but still no word regarding a password reset for Dastard I. Perhaps I have been banned?

Certainly now.
TouchEmAllGuy Verified Member Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 As much as I would like to see A-Stud get at bats to help get him out of the current skid, I also don't want to be taking away at bats from Garv-Sauce. Gotta keep him hot by feeding the machine at-bats. Should be a fun one today!

I've botched other things ... dishes/desserts that I'm bringing to someone's house, but I've usually been able to 'fix' them to the point that no one really notices and it still tastes good. Was this a first time meal you fixed for this new person? If so, the lesson is ... test it in advance or stick to what you know and don't try something new for the first time for a 'potential someone.'

I usually decide what I want to make and then google the individual recipes. I usually alter them as well to fit my tastes. This one might be my favourite creation. That's blackened salmon with a home made bernaise sauce.... and of course Oscar style
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 I made dinner last night for a hopeful significant other... And completely butchered it. The recipe on Pinterest looked easy enough, and the pictures online looked good! But it didn't turn out quite like the picture online...Anyone have a similar experience?Sort of. I had multiple holiday dinners (Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc) in a row where the main course was not necessarily ruined, but shall we say didn't turn out as intended because of completely random occurrences. The "best" instance was a Thanksgiving where I tossed a turkey on my grill rotisserie. The rotisserie rod was a threaded two piece bit. About halfway through spinning, the rod snapped and the bird fell into the drip pan full of quartered baby red potatoes. No idea how long it was like that, but that side of the bird was pretty well done. The potatoes ended up with plenty of grease though, so there was that. That Christmas was less random but "entertaining" nonetheless. I was grilling a beef tenderloin with a mushroom bordelaise sauce. I was using dehydrated mushrooms, but neglected to rehydrate them before putting them in the sauce. The sauce ended up being extra thick. It was still really good, just "a bit" more concentrated than it should have been. I actually wrote a note on the recipe reminding myself to rehydrate the mushrooms. The following Easter I was plank grilling some fish. It was raining pretty good at the time, so I had a family member come out with me with an umbrella. Just as I pulled the fish off the grill, the rain picked up and a massive wind gust blew the umbrella out of my family members hand, hitting me in the head, causing me to drop the fish on the ground. For the next Thanksgiving dinner, I apparently had learned nothing and tried to rotisserie the bird again. This time the motor on my rotisserie died at some point - again cooking the one side of the bird more than the other. I haven't had any issues since (knock on wood), but I kind of know what you feel like. At least in my case, it makes for some good stories.
