nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 I believe Wilson caught for Madden at Tampa Bay so maybe that influenced the trade. He wanted his skill set for September for the Cubs. He's got a whole set?! David HK, Hosken Bombo Disco, ThejacKmp and 3 others 6
David HK Verified Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Why not, at least we don't have to see Wilson at the plate anymore. Astudillo is the backup catcher now as far as I can see.True dat. Should be counting our blessings, I guess. As long as MoY doesn't start playing Gimenez as much as he played BWlison.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Presumably he would take Wilson’s spot.Which could go to someone else, probably a reliever, for evaluation purposes instead. Maybe that's not needed. We shall see.
tarheeltwinsfan Verified Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Thanks and good luck to Bobby Wilson. I enjoyed his hustle and determination. He was banged up several times and once the heat got to him after a long half inning behind the plate...but he persevered. He is a tough baseball player. jokin, mngopherguy and Hosken Bombo Disco 3
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Here’s a take from a Cubs fan guy at the gym this morning. He said of Gimenez, ‘Good riddance! He’s a real jerk. He screwed up Darvish!’ Um, what??? Apparently Gimenez said some things to the press like Darvish didn’t like getting booed and that put more pressure on him. And he’s really happy to be getting Wilson. He’ll be on the playoff roster as the back up catcher, he doesn’t care about his bat just his good defense. Hosken Bombo Disco 1
rdehring Verified Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 It appears that Giminez is not on the 40-man roster. With this move, they have opened up a spot on the 40-man roster. Is it possible they will be adding someone today or over the weekend? Another trade? Someone joining the Twins after the minor league season is over, someone who isn't on the current roster? Maybe a relief pitcher at Rochester?

jokin Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Wonder who the PTBNL could be? Assuming we go that route. Mr. Bucket O Balls on Line Three!

We shall see.As has been noted, they have two guys out for the year that aren’t on the 60 day DL. And then there’s Belisle.

puckstopper1 Verified Member Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 I didn't think you could trade players on the D.L.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 I didn't think you could trade players on the D.L.You can trade players on the DL. You may not be able to request trade waivers on them, but I suspect Wilson already went through those waivers earlier this month: https://www.thecubreporter.com/book/export/html/3538 In most cases a player on a disabled list can be traded, even if the player is not eligible to be reinstated and/or healthy enough to play. The one exception is if Trade Assignment Waivers must be secured before the player can be traded. In that case (only), the player must be eligible to be reinstated from the Disabled List AND healthy enough to play before the player can be placed on waivers. Otherwise the disabled player would have to be a "Player to Be Named Later."Basically, they don't want teams using the DL to help guys clear trade waivers. I suppose Josh Donaldson was eligible to be activated and is healthy enough to play too, considering he is already on a rehab assignment. puckstopper1 1
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Giminez can't be too happy.I don't know ... was he still on the active roster in Chicago?
bighat Verified Member Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 I don't know ... was he still on the active roster in Chicago? You know what, I didn't even think of that! I kinda assumed he was just playing every 5th day in Chicago and polishing up his dancing shoes for the World Series. That sounds less likely when I say it out loud.... Squirrel 1

rghrbek Verified Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Gimenez, who batted .204 at AAA is playing first base....scrap heap Fields playing left today....Wade/Buxton other young players all down in AAA. Shame
Sarah Verified Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 probably Rizzo, or Bryant. Maybe even both. I have faith Levine can talk them into Javier Baez. USAFChief 1
