I read one possible move is Buxton to the DL from one thing I read, but nothing has been made official other than Slegers is going to be in KC for tonight’s game.

Gad, I hope not.

Buxton isn’t in the lineup tonight ... which doesn’t say anything other than that, but ...

Well, maybe his injured/broken foot was affecting his swing timing. It's a lost season so let's get him healthy and go from there.  double sigh ....

How does that explain his hitting before he was injured?

at YouTube, via Mike Berardino on Twitter.

Buxton had all the right answers in that interview. It sounded like his head was in the right place which is good, I kind of figured part of his problem was confidence. I think I was wrong.

I hope they let it fully heal this time then let him rehab plenty in Rochester, not recalling him until the bat looks better.

Also, come on, give us Wade already. This team needs a lot of help working deep into counts and getting on base; it's probably the team's biggest problem. His bat is probably fine but even if it isn't, the bottom of the order needs better at bats, it's not hitting anyway.

Right...he was a complete mess at the plate from game one...has nothing to do with his foot.

This has everything to do with hitting the reset button and giving him an 'excuse' (saving face whatever you want to call it) to spend some extended time in the minors.  Probably not a bad idea to start completely over.  It really has been that bad.

Boy, the decision to have Buxton skip rehab was a terrible idea. I get that they wanted him back badly, but boy did things backfire.

And now Grossman will resume hitting in a full time role. Ugh.

He didn't skip rehab.

He only had 2 days remaining on his rehab eligibility (migraines) when he came up.

If a player sustains a new injury (toe) during a rehab stint, they MUST be recalled and be INACTIVE (but on roster) for at least 5 games before they can start a new rehab assignment.

Which explains all the days off since he was recalled.

I'm a bit of a skeptic and I think Buxton's toe isn't any worse than it has been. They're doing the old "hide the bad player on the DL" move, like they have done with Hughes, Pelfrey, etc.

I would say that is extremely likely.

I had to wonder if his toe wasn't still bothering him when he didn't run recently in a couple of obvious running situations. Pinch-running in the 9th last night, for example.

Buxton has an option remaining.

They don't need to manipulate anything to hide him.

Why use it if a DL trip accomplishes the same goal? The way Buxton is (not) developing, having an option in one’s back pocket seems like a prudent idea.

Because if the player isn't injured, he's not going to agree to let you save his option.

Players would never run out of options if they just agreed to pretend to be injured every time a team wanted to send them down.

The Twins need Buxton in their lineup and in the field as much as anyone.  But they need a healthy Buxton.  The worst injury that can happen to a player who's #1 asset is his speed is a foot injury.

Can understand their (Twins and Buxton) wanting to get back up and playing.  Can also understand what a foot injury can do to his performance.

What I can't understand is how so many of us were willing to ship him off for a prospect and a bag of balls while he was battling through a difficult situation.

Does he need to improve his hitting, yes.  I have 100% confidence it will come over the next year or two.  Much like Max Kepler overcame last year's concerns against lefties, Buxton will improve his ability to get on base.  Now he needs to get 98% healthy, spend a week or two on a rehab assignment and then come back and help the Twins in August and September.

Yeah, Buxton DID say the right things in that article. It makes sense that the toe injury would affect his running and confidence in stealing bases. But I'm still not sure if that's a good excuse for his batting woes all year. In any case, like Nick, said, I hope that the team is patient and give him time to heal, and also give him a proper rehab stint in the minors next time around before they bring him up again.
