drjim Provisional Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Hopefully just for interleague play so he can still hit.
drjim Provisional Member Posted July 8, 2017 Author Posted July 8, 2017 Deal finalized in between Machado bombs.
Old Twins Cap Verified Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 I generally don't like the retread signings. But I love this one. The humor/human interest dimensions of having the world's oldest baseball player is priceless. And, he is a card carrying member of the Clown Club. Get him some long, curled shoes -- let's get 'er done.
Puckett34 Verified Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Meh. If they can get a handful of decent starts out of him, I'd call it a good signing.
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 I've seen the club announcement and I'm still hoping to find out that it's April Fool's day. What a joke. This was my PG post because how I really feel about this will get me banned.

spinowner Provisional Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 I guess since it's a minor league contract we don't have much to lose. Let's see if he can do anything at all in AAA.
King Provisional Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 I know people make jokes but I love this signing. Colon has been a remarkably consistent 2.5-3 win starter going back for 6 years prior to this. Don't know what the cause of his struggles were this season, but if he can figure it out, there is significant upside here, and little to no downside.

drjim Provisional Member Posted July 8, 2017 Author Posted July 8, 2017 Santana trade insuranceInteresting idea.
King Provisional Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 I wish I understood the disdain about this signing.
Brandon Verified Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 He is this generations version of our Steve Carlton signing in 1987...also same year we won the World Series....
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 I wish I understood the disdain about this signing.I was hoping for Jamie Moyer...
Brandon Verified Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Also i think the minor league signing was to give him a start or 2 in the minirs before we need a 5th starter again since we wont need one fir a bit with the all star break and rotation reset afterwards. Aaron Gleeman is happy now....
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Meh, he had success last year and seems to be a good "team guy" at the very least, if he sucks in AAA cut him loose, it's not like he is blocking any real prospects there....and if he pitches in the majors he will be far from the worst pitcher the Twins have put on the mound this season.
GCTF Verified Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Time to get a jersey!I'm just going to replace the name on my old Ponson jersey.
jud6312 Verified Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 I was hoping for Jamie Moyer...His spin rate can't compare to Big Sexy's.
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Seriously? Anyone is upset about this? Why? I know his age and weight have been sort of a running joke for a while now...but has anyone looked at his numbers the past few years? Guy pitched 190 innings and won double digit games last season alone. So what if he's been bad this season? He's on a milb contract and maybe finds himself and can throw even close to what he did last season. Look at his numbers people. If he's toast...he's toast and he's gone! But thus could end up being pretty smart.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Bartolo+Colon+New+York+Mets+v+Cincinnati+Reds+uBmljwHqkzgl.jpg I wonder if Bartolo still has perspiration issues?
yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 The Twins were the final stop on Jesse Orosco's long train ride as well.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 I'm not the biggest fan of this signing, but why not sign a 44 year old guy who's 285 pounds? Joking aside, he should be a fun personality and it's not everyday you bring in a guy who pitched back in 1997. On the downside, he had a 8.10 ERA (decent FIP tho) and can barely touch 88 mph. As long as Falvey doesn't give him a long leash (I don't think he will), I'm fine with this.
