Good afternoon and welcome to another Twins Daily Game Thread extravaganza!

1,000!  This is my 1,000th post on Twins Daily.  For over 4 days I've avoided posting anything so I could make my Game Thread introduction post number 1,000.  Do you know how hard it was for me not to jump in on the whole Adam Wilk conversation yesterday?  I read that entire thread with my fingers twitching.  Almost caved and posted an obscene comment but didn't want to get a warning point and lose my 1,000th post on something so obnoxious.

When I started following Twins Daily I was just a bystander.  Too scared to post or join this great fraternity of Twins fans.  So glad I did!  1,000 posts later and its more fun now than ever.

Driving between meetings today I got to thinking about my posting milestone.  The number 1,000 is a cool number. It seems to encapsulate a lot of things.  Consider this:

  • The number 1,000 has a lot of nicknames:  K, G "Grand", M, Stack
  • In July of 2013 Auburn's odds of winning the BCS title were 1,000 to 1 at the LVH Hotel in Las Vegas. 14 people actually took that bet.  They almost won too.
  • No one has ever had a 1,000 batting average over an entire baseball season
  • A bet that is 1,000 to 1 pays $1,000 on a one dollar bet.
  • The current odds of Twins winning the World Series this year is 100:1.  It's not 1,000 but thought you would appreciate seeing the current odds
  • On May 28th, 2016 the Royals came back and beat the White Sox 8 to 7 after trailing by 7 runs in the 9th inning.  They already had one out when they mounted their comeback.  Odds of happening? 1,000 to 1.
  • Paul Molitor while playing had a 1 and 5,272 chance of beating Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak.
  • The odds of Phil Hughes pitching a perfect game tonight is difficult to accurately predict but odds makers will say it falls between 1:18,192 and 1:46,800.
  • Odds that Adam Wilk pitches with the Twins the rest of the 2017 season:  1:1,000

Let's go Twins!  Phil, overcome those odds!  Let's see a perfect game! (can you imagine if he actually pulled it off?) Game Thread intro of the century...

Odds that Adam Wilk pitches with the Twins the rest of the 2017 season:  1:1,000.....?????

Congrats on 1,000 posts, but I think you were a bit shy on the above odds...more like 1,000,000 to 1   ;)

I was patiently waiting for the game thread so I could complain about Mauer starting over Vargas.

Vargas has hit lefties well in his career, while Mauer has not done much lately against them. So Mauer should be grabbing some bench.

Nice job, 'sporto.

BTW, you missed the obvious one:

75.67 percent  of statistics you find on the internet are made up on the spot.

You could complain about that, or Escobar DHing over Vargas. Either way, Vargas should be in the lineup.

*no idea if that's a good translation, but it is the right words....

Which inning will "no mas" be uttered? And will the speaker be Paul Molitor, or Phil Hughes?

So. uh. Kepler sits and Rosario plays from now on vs Lefties?

I may have missed it, but that seem the trend. It is a trend I do NOT endorse.

I don't want to see Max sit against all lefties but in the here and now, playing Rosario against LHP is probably the right call. Eddie never had a severe L/R split in the minors and his career MLB split OPS is only .030 apart (about .150 apart this season).

Though Kepler needs to play against a fair amount of LHP in the long run or he'll never improve.

Big picture puzzle: The claiming of Wilks.

Small picture puzzle: Mauer batting against a lefty over Vargas.

The Twins are channeling a bit of Churchill, in that management is a "riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma."

Another math thread?

I'm sensing a trend...

Good job!

The trend is ending on Saturday when I'm back in the rotation... All that's needed is a beer, and hawt taeks!!

What quantity of beer are we talking about? Case? Six pack? 12 ounce can? 16 ounce bottle? (math thread!)

There's a recent study that says taeks are the hottest between beers 5 and 6. And you never want to run out of beer.... So **** it, get a 24 pack just in case!

Is the science settled or is more research required in order to quantify the results? Don't forget to make sure the statistical outliers are accounted for.

You're wrong. You know who else was wrong? Hitler.

Also, chances of Godwin's Law being invoked in internet arguments? Much, much better than 1000:1

"Duro" is hard like a surface. "Dificil" is hard as in difficult.

Language is fun! Until you have to speak it.

I thought that too, so I looked at his splits.

In 2017, Kennys is slashing .143/.188/.143 (.330) against lefties, and while Mauer isn't great, he is 150 points better in OPS.  Seems like Molitor has decided to micromanage, and that SSS is "fake news".

But, but, but, Escobar is hitting .500 against Derek Holland.  Just ask Paul Molitor.

The sooner the powers that be realize that Joe Mauer should be a once or twice a week player, the better off the entire organization will be.

I would argue that I hope the organization never thinks of him as a once or twice a week player, because that would mean they re-signed him after the 2018 season.

Am I just a big jerk for pointing this out, or is this some sort of trap?

This was your 1001st post.  Sorry.  You probably got sucked into that Wilks thread.  Like a moth to the flame, it was hard to not have a strong opinion about that transaction.
