Twins bullpen: stick a fork in them.

Seriously, stick a fork in all of them!

Big fail by the new "regime" in not improving this pen at all.

Other than Duffey and Kintzler, I'm not sure they have a single guy who deserves to be on the major league ball club at this point? Call up all of the prospects and let's see who sticks?

Presley, Beslie should both definitely be cut.

The rest (sans Duffey) should be on notice.

You let a good hitting team get hot. Can't give good teams extra outs. That's not to say there isn't some bullpen changes needed. I'm ready to see the young cats sink or swim in the pen.

Prior to facing the Twins, the Sox were one of the worst hitting teams in the league.

Yeah, because the guys in AAA are so much better.

AA. AAA Waiver wire, little league etc

Can't be any worse

Yeah teams have tended to break out of slumps when facing the Twins the last few years. Sounds like bad luck to me. :)

I'm available, my rotator cuff has at least 1 inning left in it.

One thing I hope stops in the future is the twins habit of signing veteran mediocre bullpen arms. Belisle has nothing.

Set an over/under for waiver wire relievers in the next week?

In order to be fair

I wanted the Twins to be bullpen aggressive and I wanted them to go after:

Daniel Hudson -- 11M -- 2 Years

Greg Holland -- 7M -- 1 Year

Joe Blanton -- 4M -- 1 Year

Joe Smith -- 3M -- 1 Year

Don't know if 19.5M added to the payroll this year would be out of bounds but they were the guys I had on my list.

I wanted the Twins to get them all and that would push the returning bullpen arms down.

Here's how it would have turned out so far

Hudson 7.82 ERA so far... I'm Fired

Holland 12 Saves 1.38 ERA... I'm the Man... .

Blanton 10.64 ERA so far... I'm Fired again

Smith 20K in 14 IP... 2.57 ERA... I'm the MAN!!!

I'd like to criticize the FO but I need to criticize myself to be fair.

You are FIRED for being a terrible cherry picker. Don't you know you omit the failures and only woof the successes? (Or vice versa, depending on which POV you take.)

if the FO had done that, there'd be Duffey to push Blanton down the pecking order. Then we wouldn't have to watch Belisle...

I would have pushed Duffey to AAA Starting depth with those 4 and we wouldn't need Tepesch.

Belisle and Breslow wouldn't have been in uniform because Kinsler, Rogers, Pressly would have rounded it out.

I was super high on Holland, I wish the Twins would have gotten him, would have made way too much sense and at worst he would have netted you something at the deadline.

At least I got him for $2 in my dynasty fantasy league :)

I had no idea what kind of health he had but I was thinking he was worth a roll of the dice because if he came back strong. He would have had value at the deadline... or value if contending.

You gotta gather assets where and when you can.

The bullpen has been an issue for what.... 5 years now? I'd like this group to be as fluid as possible. Sending down struggling players (Pressly, Belisle, etc.) and calling up any of the prospects that have been sitting in the minors forever.

Can't send guys down that are in their thirties, or out of options....

Does Pressly have an option left? (Serious question)

Also, I think Belisle and Breslow are at the point where if they were DFA'd, they wouldn't get claimed. I guess it's up to them if they want to head to Rochester or stop playing if they don't want to head to the minors.

Yeah, it's not like this issue snuck up on this team.  It's been a glaring issue for some time and should have arguably been the highest priority of areas to improve (rotation being the other).  It's discouraging to see the old regime try the same thing over and over again expecting a different result but getting the same result and then watch the new regime do the exact same thing with not unpredictably get the same result.  I'm starting to wonder if I'm the insane one because I expect things to actually change when one approach isn't working.

Agreed.... The new regime does have a lot of darts to throw at the board. A couple have missed the board completely like Tonkin, Breslow, and Belisle. But, they have a ton of darts sitting in the minors waiting to be thrown. Who knows, maybe there's a triple 20 waiting around in the minors!

Maybe so, but even then I have little faith that Molitor will use the bullpen pieces effectively.  See yesterday's late game (mis)management as Exhibit A...That was a joke so irritating that I was actually laughing as I watched the predictable results unfold.

But there are other options for those guys that are equally as effective at jettisoning them from the roster.

What was wrong with yesterday? He had his second best reliever out there to start the 9th.

Molitor isn't the best, but he isn't exactly working with top shelf talent in the pen. Only so much he can do.

2nd best is the problem.  Should have been the best, Kintzler.  No reason to leave your closer on the bench at that point.  If he had pitched Saturday, that may change things but that wasn't the case.  The fact that Kintzler wasn't even used to stop the bleeding before it got out of hand is also an issue.

I agree completely that Molitor has lackluster talent to utilize, but he does himself no favors by how and when he uses said talent.

Is Kintzler actually the best or just the closer?

I have a hard time applying the usual bullpen rules to this motley bunch.

I don't disagree with that, but I would have preferred to go with Kintzler over what was left in the pen at the time.  I don't really feel that any of the guys that pitched the 9th have any business pitching in a late, close game situation.  I don't trust them at all.  After Belisle, the guys Molitor trotted out there only got worse and Kintlzer didn't even throw in the pen to my knowledge.

I trust Kintzler the most to keep the game where it was.  That's the priority at that point.
