What does your *perfect* Brian Dozier trade look like?

Ordinarily I am fine with the principle of going after the best possible player, regardless of position. But this is our one best trade chip, and starting pitching is our crying need. I'll be pretty disappointed if a trade occurs and doesn't involve a young but MLB-ready front of the rotation candidate.

Rather have De Leon and Verdugo or De Leon and Alvarez than De Leon and Puig, by far. Would be happy with De Leon and Bellinger.

DeLeon and Bellinger would be incredible.

Perfect Dozier trade 1:

Dozier + Berrios + Gordon for Sale

Perfect Dozier trade 2:

Dozier+ Gonsalves + Stewart for Urias + DeLeon + Stewart.

(and I'd throw in Perkins in the last deal ;) )

Pittsburg should also be examined.  They have a couple of pitchers close(Tallion and one other) and other pieces.  MLBtraderumors has 4-5 clubs in on Dozier, maybe a couple of them waiting to see if the price dropped(it should not).   We shall see, but I agree that only deals with good close to  major league pitching should be considered.

If the Twins snagged 2 of De Leon/Bellinger/Alvarez + 1 lower prospect, I'd be thrilled.

Me too, although I think the moment that 2 of those guys are on the table, I don't bother waiting around to haggle about the lower prospect. :)

Hmmm, doesn't seem fair to ask for the perfect trade, because from a Twins perspective, a perfect trade would involve a team giving the Twins all of their top prospects for Dozier.

For example, my perfect Dozier trade might be JP Crawford and Mark Appel for Dozier.

But since Crawford is likely not coming back....how about Appel and Aaron Nola?

What the heck do you want Mark Appel for?

Why would your "rebuilding" Twins trade for Chris Sale?

well, yeah, that's the fun of this.

Meaning you are convinced he is never going to amount to anything? I'm not convinced of that.

Not necessarily, but I'm less convinced now than ever before. In a big trade like this, he's not someone I'm necessarily targeting.

True, which is why my *perfect* Phillies trade would be Crawford and Nola with Appel thrown in. It's not very realistic, I'll admit.

I'm not sure of the players involved to make it come true, but my perfect trade will be the one that only leaves me slightly jealous about what the White Sox are about to get for Sale.

Probably one of those "I'll know it when I see it" deals.

While looking over the Phillies lists, I notice that in 2013/2014, both the Twins and the Phillies drafted a SS and a RHP with their first rounders. The Twins picked earlier each time (#4, #5 vs #16 and #7).

One pair of picks is not like the other:

A ) JP Crawford, Aaron Nola
B ) Kohl Stewart, Nick Gordon

Dozier for Julio Urias and Lux...... or Dozier for De Leon, Alvarez and Lux. Or a Torres + Justus Sheffield + Acevedo Yankee trade.  ... I'm hoping the yankees and Dodgers bid eachother up :)

I would be happy with these trades (minus the Puig one, I'd rather get De Leon and one of Wood, Díaz, Buhler, Sheffield instead).

I don't think it's necessary to acquire near-MLB-ready position players in a Dozier trade because I think that's who we'd be able to acquire in a Santana trade, if and when it happens.  I don't see a team willing to surrender a near-MLB-ready top pitching prospect for Santana, because the difference between having him or Santana in their rotation is probably not too significant and then when you factor in that the prospect likely has a higher ceiling...

SO, I think we need to take advantage of the Dozier trade for at least two arms with a combination of near-MLB-ready and high upside.

Dozier to Dodgers for De Leon RHP, Buhler RHP, and Lux SS

OR

Dozier to Dodgers for Alvarez RHP and Wood LHP

Then, that sets us up for Santana trade in July where we'd bring back 2-3 prospects, of that 1-2 top 100 prospects (maybe a position player and a pitcher who's far away) which includes a position player who can help the club relatively immediately.  For example maybe we could get something like the following:

Santana to Yankees for Clint Frazier OF, Domingo Acevedo RHP, Luis Torrens C

OR
Santana to Red Sox for Rafael Devers 3B, Luis Alexander Basabe OF, Chandler Shephard RHRP

This would re-vamp the Twins top prospect depth: (Using the list from MLB, know isn't perfect): 1) Frazier, 2) De Leon, 3) Jay, 4) Gordon, 5) Gonsavles, 6) Kirilloff, 7) Stewart, 8) Acevedo, 9) Romero, 10) Buhler, 11) Chargois, 12) Lux, 13) Rortvedt, 14) Mejia, 15) Torrens

And hey if they don't trade Santana in July it means the team's looking halfway-decent so that's a win in itself!

Chris sale is 6 months older than Trevor May.  Does May have his place in a rebuilding team?

My guess is less to do with age and more team control. In your defense, Chris Sale isn't a rental. He has three more years on his contract.

If the ChiSox would deal within the division, I'd make that trade.

My top target would be Glasnow of the Pirates. Then I'd try to work in Josh Harrison and Elias Diaz coming back to the Twins as part of a bigger deal too.

They've soured on Harrison but he's still a much better version of Danny Santana. Diaz is a rising catcher prospect.

I'dd add pretty much any prospects not named Gonsalves, Jay, Gordon, Kirilloff, and Romero on the Twins side to make that happen.

Assuming other teams value Doizer at 90% of his stats from last year or more the Twins shouldn't even have to "win" the trade to make a good deal for the future.  Baseballs a funny game so I'm not about to assume a full rebuild is the only path to the playoffs but a playoff ready team should be willing to give up the kind of package that you can't turn down.  To me this feels like having multiple high draft picks that have already been developed for a few years (more like NFL draft picks then MLB), I don't know what they will turn into but I love the position we're in.  Of course I want pitching but as long as we bring in talent I'm not worried about it in fact if we could get 3 position players of real value I'd probably prefer it over 3 solid pitchers.  I want that ace pitcher but one #2 and 2 #3's isn't going to have the same impact as one borderline All Star position player and 2 slightly above average position players.

Trevor May is under team control until 2021. I'm not giving the White Sox Buxton and Berrios simply so I can see Chris Sale get some token Cy Young votes during his last couple of peak years pitching for non-to-barely contending Twins teams.

His velocity dropped 1.7 MPH from 2015 to 2016, those peak years may already be in the rearview mirror anyway. He needs to be headed to the NL like yesterday.
