Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Would they trade us Tulo? Too bad we no longer have Duensing to add in as the sweetener to acquire Tulo.. Taildragger8791, cjj td, twinsnorth49 and 1 other 4
LaBombo Verified Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Agreed, and I'm not intending to poo poo the trade. This is likely what Abad was worth, and I'd rather shoot for upside over low ceiling/mediocre floor types. Just providing some context that he doesn't have just a "little" control problem, he's vintage Ricky Vaughn at the moment.I agree with what the Twins did, I agree that we agree, and I'm hoping they sort out his control so that next season we can watch the Charge-wah of the Light Brigade. nytwinsfan Provisional Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Buster Olney@BusterEPSNSource: Ervin Santana to Blue Jays. Waiting to hear back on return. A lot of smoke....Some people were saying this is a fake Buster Olney account. So grain of salt for now.
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Too bad we no longer have Duensing to add in as the sweetener to acquire Tulo..They still have something so much sweeter though! I present to you, Danny Santana. Vanimal46 1
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Of topic, but did they move T. Jay to the Pen for good or only to limit his innings this year? Innings limit for sure......no worries yet. I love the Abad deal. They don't need Abad, and they got a 25 yo hard thrower......what's not to like? Tom Froemming Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 An Erv deal with Hutchison as the centerpiece would not excite me. He's only under team control for two more seasons, same as Santana. But I suppose that may be an indication the team isn't confident Ervin will hold up that much longer.

Jham Verified Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 You should probably elaborate. Minor league K rate over 9, keeps the ball in the park, and minimizes his walk rate. Might not be that ace upside we want, but certainly looks like he could be a decent starter. The bigger problem I see is that getting guys like that and Mejia, are they going to continue to trot Milone and Nolasco out...I'm not sure it was really their intention to trot those guys out. No one really distinguished themselves enough to replace them. Milone was already waived. Nolasco beat out Duffey fair and square during Spring Training and again this season (battle of futility). I'm sure we'd trade Nolasco for about anything would there be any takers, and that's without a ready replacement. I'd probably hold on to Milone, just in case we need an extra starter next season.

Plus his performance, and lack of top prospect pedigree even from a few years ago, he's more like Tommy Milone now than the primary guy the Twins should be targeting in return for a good asset. Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 It was nearly an hour ago that Jeremy reported "Santana gone" but his source did not indicate a destination. And no one else has reported much of anything new on him since then -- shortly thereafter, Morosi tweeted the Blue Jays were discussing him, but has since tweeted about the Jays interest in Hellickson too.

But Santana is the least imperative trade piece in my book.
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 No that this has anything to do with the Twins, but the Colin Rea bit is interesting. Don't recall ever seeing something like that before.

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Jeremy's Twitter is also linking a Berardino Tweet about how the Giants have also long had interest in Santana. Jeremy's response is asking for Phil Bickford. That was clearly just spitballing. A good spitball though. gunnarthor 1
KirbyHawk75 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 There are rumors that SF is also interested in Santana. I think Bickford is not a possible get. However, a package of P-Tyler Beede and C-Aramis Garcia would be nice gets too.

Milone never sat low-90s with his fastball as a starter. You're banking on the hope that he can bounce back some. And the reality is no one is going to pay top dollar for the rights to pay Santana $13.5 through his next two decline years.
