2:29 If he's traded Do you think puig be moved to a contender with his locker room issues

2:29 There hasn't been one of those in a couple years, right? Everything I've heard lately is that he's become a good teammate.

Damn too late to trade for him now, I don't think he would make it to us in the waiver process now.

Puig stormed out and did not accompany Dodgers to Colorado. He may be talented Puig,  but is this the kind of temperament you want around Sano who already has a few issues believing he is better than he is right now. I think I would pass on Puig, just don't want him rubbing off on Sano right now.

How recent?  He may have cleaned this up but I don't know I want to take a chance on the impact of Sano/Berrios/Rosario/Polanco/Chargois or any other player.  This team is still a ways from contention and he has two years of control left.  Just long enough to create a real problem here before he is gone.  The more I think about it, the more I dislike the idea.

To be fair, they told him after they traded for Reddick that he (Puig) was going to either be traded or demoted to the minors, so no matter what he likely wasn't making that trip to Colorado anyways.

By all accounts he had been a great teammate this year, sounds like he was just pretty pissed that he was being sent down or shipped out.

That report was false. He was told not to even come to the park

yeah, that whole thing seemed weird. Turns out none of it was true.

Twins need to make a waiver claim (if he gets to them) just to block him from going to a rival

We should pretty high up on the list, though I'm trying to remember if there's a league preference here that gets in the way. As I said before, I'd be happy to pick up a guy like that if his problem isn't 'player cannot hit X pitch', but there's a very real problem of moving someone to play him. The more I look at Rosario, he may be a sell high candidate sooner than later. I'd be OK replacing Rosario with Puig... not quite sure I'd be OK trading Rosario for Puig at this point. The Dodgers kind of put themselves in a pickle.

You could pick up Puig and find enough at bats for everyone the rest of the year IMO. The only guy in the OF/1B/DH who has earned every day at bats is Kepler. You can have Buxton, Rosario, Puig, Vargas, Mauer all get at bats in the other 2 OF spots and 1B/DH spots.

You can try to sell high on Rosario (as a CF for another team) after the season.

Puig would never make it to the AL without being claimed.

Yeah, probably true.

...

The Dodgers desperately need some catching help and could prob use some OF depth as well. I doubt Suzuki+Grossman would be enough for Puig, but if they could toss in a 20-25 prospect I think it would be worth seriously considering the move.

...

Grossman and his .402 OBP can stay.

Need:
* Start Vargas @ 1B
* Start Polanco @ SS
* Bench Mauer
* Trade Plouffe
* Trade Rosario

Yasiel Puig “is considered toxic at the moment” and it seems unlikely that another team will take him off the Dodgers’ hands.  One Dodgers official isn’t entirely closing the door on Puig remaining in L.A., saying “At some point, the talent, the maturity is going to take hold.  Someone will benefit from it.  We hope it’s us, but it’s hard to envision it right now.”

Assuming Puig fell to the Twins, I wonder if the Dodgers would trade him for Grossman straight up.

He has about 17.5M the next two years according to BB Reference. The Twins have certainly used money foolishly and have done worse than to trade for Puig. Have the Dodgers pick up 7.5M and offer them a "B" prospect that's needs to be either added to 40 man or one that you're not going to maybe keep even though they're a decent prospect i.e. Walker. The Twins NEED to do something to boost up their fans and taking a risk on Puig I think it's worth it. He's only 25 yo and just two years removed from being the man. I'm sure he's a little humbled with his demotion.

ideally, the twins could put together an outfield of puig, danny valencia and carlos gomez. then add milton bradley, albert belle and barry bonds as coaches. can ryan lochte hit? he'd make a great fourth outfielder ...

Puig > Rosario

Puig >>>>>>>>>>>Grossman

bonds>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Bruno

Valencia would look pretty solid as a platoon guy these days....

Perhaps Valencia could concuss some of the Twins players too! He appears to be a delightful player to have in the club house...

Did you read what happened?  Butler butted in when Valencia was talking to an endorser saying Valenica was lying about use of footwear.  So, affecting money.  Then when Valenica called him on it, he said 'I'll say what I want and your beotch ass won't do anything about it'.  Yeah, Valencia was in the wrong...

After reading the article, both guys sound like d bags.

Valencia for essentially attempting to commit fraud.

Butler for sticking his nose in it.

And both guys again for thinking that adults problem solve by acting like obnoxious children.

How do we know he was attempting to commit fraud?  Do we know Butler was telling the truth? Nope and nope.  We know Butler has a similar deal with a rival endorser though.

Butler may have cost Valenica real money by doing that and for no other reason than to be a jackhole. And you're right, the behavior by both is bad, but Butler initiated all of that by attempting to have a teammate lose an endorsement deal.  I suppose just walking away is the right thing to do when someone attempts to rob you.  Which is what Butler did.

I think it's clear that Butler was the bad teammate there.  First by butting in and then telling the sponsor to drop Valencia.  Then by saying Valencia's beotch ass wasn't going to do anything about it.

Getting in the way of a business deal is an a hole move, but far from robbery.

It's purposely attempting to take 10-20K or more away from someone.  I'm not sure that's FAR from robbery, but whatever.  People can rag on Valencia all they want for this, but even though I abhor violence, in this instance, I take his side.  And after what he did, if I'm Butler's teammate, I stop socializing with him, period.  Interact with him as little as possible.

Picking between Butler and Valencia for Mr. Congeniality? You may want to just leave the award vacant for a year.

Back to thread topic: anyone trading for Puig right now must either be very secure in his job, not care about what happens to him, or be very desperate. I don't think Rob Antony falls in any of those three categories.

Career 132 OPS+? 25 years old? Only owed 2/17 after this season? Plenty of teams would be interested in Puig if the Dodgers were willing to sell him cheap. (They probably aren't selling him cheap, of course.)
