Really hoping it's not the Twins that claimed him. There's too much talent there for the Dodgers to wash their hands of him without there being some major issues. This team has more than enough issues without adding one that makes teams look past him.

Actually, the Twins are exactly the kind of team that should be trying to buy low on him.

There are no expectations for at least one more year, so if he doesn't work out, there was never anything to spoil in the first place, and you just cut him.

If he does get it turned around, you can either keep him, or trade him for a nice package.

This team sucks and has seemingly high character guys up and down it. I don't think they all need to be altar boys, but there's something about Puig that just isn't adding up.

Plus, the Dodgers aren't just going to give him away - the package is going to need to be big, just not as big as a couple of years ago.

I'm not sure a team in this position would be wise to give up much of anything to get a high-risk, high-reward type in hopes of redemption and/or flipping him for something better. That has self-implosion written all over it.

You do realize we could claim him without offering anything in trade, right?

Although I think the gentlemen's agreement dictates that teams in the Twins position shouldn't make any August trade waiver claims, barring some specific prior arrangement with the waiving club.

Other than that, though, I'd hope we would express interest in Puig if the primary cost was money.

There is literally nothing but money at risk with a waiver claim.

This is a team rolling out DanSan, Grossman and Shafer in the OF.

Make the claim.

Revocable waivers. If you think the Dodgers are going to just let him go without getting something in return, I've got a bridge to sell you.

Revocable waivers ... the Dodgers are looking to trade him, not just get rid of him.

I know.  But you were being critical of a hypothetical Twins claim because of the cost...?  There is no cost if we don't meet the Dodgers asking price, whatever that is, other than salary if they don't revoke the waiver request for some reason.

I'm not sure where you got this thing about me being averse to the cost of Puig.

My original statement had ZERO to do with cost and everything to do with not wanting him on the team or giving up any prospects or players for him. Cost was never mentioned in my comment.

Yeah it would sure be a shame if they got Puig, he might ruin their shot at the number one pick next year and a top 3 pick for the following two seasons.
